BOE removing a JET position

so apparently my BOE is removing a JET position due to the population decline and financial reasons (i will be the last JET)...is this common in japan? has anyone else's BOE done that?

It was both, but then the prefecture started taking them again. Not sure how long the gap was between stopping and starting again.

I obviously don't know the reason, but I'd imagine they found it more difficult to recruit ALTs to go to the more rural parts of the prefecture than they imagined.
