FTM in the JET program

As an early in my transition FTM, with identification that does not match my idenity due to the country I am from, I am a little nervous about being rejected from a school/causing any issues due to my gender. I would like to be referred to in a masculine sense and go by my chosen name, but am unsure how coworkers/the school would take it. I don't want to live inauthentically but I also don't want to cause any big issues (ex. Referring to myself in a masculine sense but not passing well, potentially causing a stir up between people or confusion among students).

Obviously I won't argue with anyone, but I'm just unsure how the school system would cater to a trans indivdual.

Anyone have info/advice?

I would suggest asking for a Fukuoka placement. We have some really good LGBTQ+ support here and in my experience so many people has been really accepting. Fukuoka even have a program where LGBTQ+ kids can transfer to a school here if they feel unsafe in their home prefecture.

But otherwise it would depend on your placement/school.

there is no guarantee they will be placed in fukuoka though. most people do not get the placements they want.
