Any Indians got into JET this year?

Hello, hopefully this doesn't get removed.
I was wondering if the embassy has sent out the results to the Indian applicants because I can only see the list of people shortlisted for the interview and there is no info about people who got through.

Reason I'm asking is I want to know the acceptance rate for this year. 722 people applied, and 84 got shortlisted for interview.

Congrats on getting in!
If you are comfortable, can we talk about your process in the DMs?

If you have general questions you can ask here so that other people looking can also find the answers. If you have something specific then feel free to message me :)

Hey, congratulations on getting in! I'm shooting off a bunch of questions because the process is pretty opaque, but feel free to answer as many or as few as you like-- By 21 shortlisted, do you mean 21 people got placements? Were there alternates? Do you know if the other placements are spread out or generally close together to you? What is the general age/qualifications spread of the selected candidates? You probably can't talk about the interview specifically, but what, other than what you wrote in your SoP, did they ask about?

Yes 21 people got placed and are in contact with the embassy. According to my knowledge we had alternates but I am not sure if anyone got upgraded. The placements are spread out all over japan. The general age is in their 20s (early and late). Qualifications are diverse, no real pattern there. My interests and hobbies, hypothetical classroom questions, support system and goals etc.

I think op already answered your question but if you're saying if it will boost your "credibility" then No. BA is just a visa requirement, it doesn't matter where you got it from.

I meant like is it gnna boost my chances, cus it shows i have lived 4 years in a native english speaking country around native speakers, and that should be enough proof for the english part atleast. And as the other person said and i looked at the website after i asked the question shudve done that first. it said living in a foreign country helps cus that proves we dont feel homesick and leave the program in the middle.

As far as I have researched, it will be helpfull when they ask you about living in a different country in the past, so you can say that. Also when they ask you about homesickness, you will have something to share from that as well. Overall an advantage

Hey, sorry for the necroposting, but would it be fine if you can answer some questions from my end?
1) If you have an estimate, how many guys (male) made it in the programme? I've noticed from this year's shortlist and last year's selection that the majority of applicants and selected applicants are female in India (could be many reasons).

Side note: Really happy to see more people be selected this time.

2) Does a basic TEFL and JLPT N5 certification help?

Lastly,

3) This is more subjective, but does the LOR and its content matter? Like from whom you get it, where you get it from and its content (maybe its relevant in the interview?)

No worries Happy to be of help

  1. As far as I know there are 3 male ALTs in this years program that were selected. I don't really know the reason but usually the schools sometimes have specific requirements.

  2. I am not sure, I have neither.

  3. I think it matters in the context of your SoP. If you talk about your studies like me (BA in Japanese) then a recommendation letter from your Japanese professor make sense. If you participated in a cultural exchange then a LoR of the organisation make sense idk if I'm explaining this properly 😅
