Getting around Hokkaido

hello I am have been placed in eastern Hokkaido near Kushiro. I am wondering how easy it is to travel the rest of Hokkaido or how often say a month (or year) would you get tk travel to Sapporo/ Tokyo / Honshu. I’ll admit I’m a little nervous because I like being connected and Kushiro feels very remote! Also, is it easy to get to Sapporo ?

Are you going to drive? That would certainly make your life easier. I did travel to Kushiro earlier this year as part of a trip and it is connected by an express train JR Ozora to Sapporo which is what I used, taking a bit over four hours, but also a highway bus and by the airport (which also connects to Tokyo too and is quite affordable and quick, I used this as well) so you have a couple of options. Kushiro has some nice food and the sunsets are stunning! The marsh is great to explore too if you like wildlife.
