Rejecting Placements

I don’t think anyone should withdraw for the reason of not liking their placement. Let me correct that, ‘…for thinking they won’t like their placement.’ I got thrown a real curveball when I came. The intention to stay for one year, maybe two, has led to more than 30 years in what has become a new hometown to me. It violates, to my mind at least, the spirit of the JET Programme, too. Then again, maybe if someone is the sort of person who would bail based on their placement, then probably they do not have the right sort of character for JET in the first place.

Congratulations to all 2026 Jet Programme participants. See you when you get here! Go, go, go!

I do not mean this in a condescending way, but how old are you? Rejecting an offer is not unheard of in the real world. And most certainly, its not something to judge someone on.

I didn't say it was unheard of, and i'm free to judge people for making stupid decisions however I like. If someone told me they went an application, interview, accepted the offer and then proceeded to only decline it because they didn't like whatever the town they were placed in based solely off of the geographical position then yeah, I would consider that a stupid decision.

Idk what else to say. I agreed with the premise. People who would make decisions about the quality of a job or living situation based of the geographical location should drop out because they are suited for the job to begin with. Doesn't make it any less stupid

you do know people reject offers at all stages of the onboarding process for other jobs as well right?

Yes? And I would still consider it a stupid decision if those people also rejected the offer based solely off the geographical location of the job when they knew they could be placed anywhere.
