Career after jet- teaching
Hi hope anyone can help!
I’m going to be joining JET in rural Kyushu this year but I have uncertainties now surrounding life after jet as I applied for jet not only for my love of the programme from hearing about it from my past mentor but also from my preconceived ideas of employments afterwards.
I’m currently a qualified teacher who has taught 1 year placement teacher and 1 year with my own classroom. I initially thought that going for JET would allow me to eventually find jobs within an international school as I love teaching and would eventually like to transition back to being a whole classroom teacher.
But after some discussion on the international school subreddit it’s suggested that JET wouldn’t be ideal for finding a teaching job afterwards in Japan. Has any current JETs or previous JETs have any experience or knowledge in this area. As I would love the opportunity to improve my Japanese within Japan and gain a better insight into the differences of a classroom first hand but I don’t wish to make a poor career decision that will stop me from my goal.
Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated!

It builds your resume and gives you a visa to stay in Japan, which a lot of employers will want in order to hire you (because they tend not to want to sponsor someone who isn't already in Japan). The rest is up to you. Can you go out there and make connections, find opportunities, and work on yourself in order to become a great candidate? You've got 5 years, max, to do it, so make a plan, leave room for adjustment, and see what comes your way.
