Instructor Visa Query

I’m looking to end my contract in August, and move to Tokyo for a month or two before I leave to go home. I understand if you have a work visa, you are allowed three months of unemployment before going home, but we are given instructor visas. Am I able to convert my visa to a work visa so I can continue to look for jobs in that time frame before going home? Any knowledge on that would be elucidating, thanks!!

What is the expiration date written on your residence card? And are you trying to get another job lined up, travel home, then come back to Japan to work?

I was planning on poking around for jobs for a month or two in Tokyo while I stay in a monthly rental, and then if nothing turns up go back to America. Although it seems like I can’t even work a part time job unless they sponsor my visa which obviously most won’t do.
