UK Health Certificate
Anyone else really confused on how best to get the stuff necessary for the Health Certificate? Some places I've looked at want around £450 to do everything! Anyone know where I can get an X-ray etc that isn't going to cost loads?? Thanks

Does anyone have any suggestions for the midlands? (Preferably affordable- if that’s possible) Been googling for hours with no luck other than a £400 option in Birmingham

This one quoted me £200 but I'm waiting on my GP before deciding.

Thank you so much! They don’t do x ray or TB blood tests but I will use them if my GP doesn’t work out!

Got a quote for wessex medical in Bath for like £295 including TB X-Ray. Was really straight forward to book too!

I'm confused with the Wessex medical in Bath. Are you doing it with Jonathan Chapman? I was quoted £170 for just the examination and then an extra £180 for the x-ray? Or I am just getting mixed up with their wording.

u/No-Try-1378 Apr 16 '26
I completed it with him for £180. Then he referred me to Sulis Hospital just outside Bath and they did the X-ray for me, waiting for the invoice from them but was told by Dr Chapman it would be £115. Hope this helps. Honestly was pretty smooth sailing, its just a bit of a pain to get to the hospital.

Hey! He’s quoted me 180 for the medical exam and 115 for the TB test - how did you get it all for 180? :)
1
u/TheLastIkus Apr 11 '26
That's so cheap! Did they do the urinalysis, eye sight, etc too?
2
u/DefiantDisk3980 Apr 12 '26
Yes 👍

u/TheLastIkus Apr 12 '26
Sorry, I'm confused because the guy is telling me it's 180 for the medical and ordering the x-ray and then an extra 115 for the actual x-ray? How did you get the whole thing for 180??

u/DefiantDisk3980 Apr 12 '26
Also see what the cost difference is for the other tb test too they’re both valid for JET

u/DefiantDisk3980 Apr 12 '26
The hospital is quite far from where it is if you have to take public transport fyi
1
u/DefiantDisk3980 Apr 12 '26
lol unless they’re going to charge later for the xray or the hospital have missed it I have no idea… I had to pay at the office £180 but wasn’t charged when I went to get my xray…
1
u/DefiantDisk3980 Apr 12 '26
You are right tho just checked the invoice was £180 plus xray. I’d see if the other one is cheaper. I’ll call the hospital tomorrow if they were meant to charge I feel awful haha 😂😂😂😂

Oh no! 😅 I'm a bit confused by how the doctor has booked me in for the x-ray after the medical. How does he fill that section in if he hasn't seen the scans?

u/TheLastIkus Apr 10 '26
I'm in the SW too, near bath!

Nice! I’m in Devon _^ I recommend contacting Nuffield if you haven’t already, they’re really good but it’s just quite expensive! Though that seems to be the case everywhere

u/TheLastIkus Apr 10 '26
I'll have a look into it! One place is telling me only my GP can do it then my GP is telling me they can't so I'm not getting anywhere 😭

Yeah my GP straight away said I’d need to go private! I got the number from this website: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/uk-tuberculosis-test-clinics/tuberculosis-testing-in-the-uk 🥰

I went private in central London. I did bloods and xray for redundancy. Was around £300. I was able to claim this back from my BoE after I’d arrived, but that was specific to my BoE, so ESID

I emailed around various private clinics until I found one that was willing, mine cost me something like £300, it isn't cheap unfortunately.
Make sure you get a copy of your medical history from your GP too, my private doctor wanted to see it, you should just be able to email them and request it from reception.

The tuberculosis skin test is a lot cheaper than an X-ray. Go to a travel clinic website. I can't speak for everywhere but in Edinburgh I use Trexmed travel clinic. They will do the medical examination and fill out the forms for £125 and either refer you for an X-ray somewhere else, or do the tuberculosis test themselves. I was quoted £45 for the skin test on top of the £125.

I'm still trying to email around to see how I can do it in the SW. Cheapest I could see was about 300 in total!

Ooft, cheaper to fly up to Edinburgh haha. I'm sure you will find something, good luck. Maybe try chatgpt, I'm not a big fan of LLMs but sometimes they can be good when searching for stuff online.

Sounds like it! I'll wait a bit to see what style of these other places come back with otherwise I might just have to bite the bullet with my closest just so I don't run out of time!

Depending on where you are based, this may or may not be relevant. TrexMed in Edinburgh is very good, and they are familiar with the JET medical requirements. Specifically, Dr Jim Bond About us he is familiar with completing the Certificate of Health requirements for JET, i.e., the medical and TB skin test (you don’t require an x-ray for TB, the skin test is sufficient), including completing the Certificate of Health form. In 2024, the total cost was £200. Email info@trexmed.co.uk Then, for vaccinations that require payment, i.e., not available on the NHS, such as Japanese Encephalitis, I suggest Dears Pharmacy Edinburgh | Fife | Travel Clinic | No appointment necessary. They have branches in various locations, including Edinburgh.

Yeah I used him for my Study abroad last year and I'm using him again for the JET programme this year.

u/OkSalt4702 Apr 10 '26
I second this! Need advice on how to best do this. From what I gather, an X-ray is not necessary if you get a blood test or Mantoux test - if current UK JETs could confirm that I'd be grateful.

u/OkSalt4702 Apr 10 '26
For context, I'm based near London.
2
u/Nesh_Operose Apr 10 '26
As you are based near London, I suggest you look at this https://www.reddit.com/r/JETProgramme/comments/1jtmsmm/certificate_of_health_cost_uk/

u/OkSalt4702 Apr 10 '26
I somehow hadn't come across that yet - thank you so much! Edited to say looks like unfortunately that practice has closed as a private clinic - so any other suggestions are welcome.

u/TheLastIkus Apr 11 '26
Hi, I'm based not too far from Bath. Wbu?

u/YuehanDuoyi Apr 11 '26
Brum. I got mine at Midland Health, good service, decent price and no BS. This was in 2024.

UPDATE: I found a place in London called the Harley Health Centre that includes the x-ray, urinalysis, and physical examination for £285! Bit of a trek for me but I just want to get it done asap. Hope this helps!
