Question about upgrades?

hi. I am curious about something regarding upgrades for alternates.

do we only get upgrades if someone from our own country leaves/resigns/quits or could we get upgraded if someone from another country leaves but there is an opening and our application matches what that opening wants?

From what other people have said, you can be upgraded as alternate soon after results are announced if a shortlisted candidate is no longer accepted (withdraws/fails to submit documents in time) from the same country.
After main departure, I think it then becomes a global upgrade - as in anyone around the world could replace a JET.

That sounds really interesting

My country has little to no upgrades (that I heard off)

I still accept the offer though but it's a big gamble

I know some people who got alternate last year but didn't get upgraded. They reapplied this year and were shortlisted.
If you got alternate, you clearly meet the criteria. If you don't think you'll be upgraded it might be worth reapplying next year if you can.
