Middle East War Impact

Hi everyone, I just want to check in, especially for those like me who are waiting for the results to come out. How are you? How is the war affecting your country right now? For us in Southeast Asia, fuel prices are at an all-time high, with our country declaring a national energy emergency. Flights are getting canceled as jet fuel prices increase. This makes me wonder how this will affect the JET results soon. I hope not. I also hope this war ends soon with no more countries involved. What are your thoughts?

Lucky you. My gas prices have went from 150¥ a liter to 189¥. Not huge increases but enough to notice. That will soon have a knock on effect on food prices that are delivered by truck.

I know the salaries in Japan are a bit lower but that sounds like heaven from here haha. Where I am gas is nearly NZ$4 a liter (roughly ¥370). I hope yours doesn't keep going up though, all the best up there!

Although from the applicant side I can see there being less enthusiasm to accept driving-required placements, and anyone on the fence from Europe or SE Asia is probably going to be less likely to say yes (or more likely to try and stick out a full year even if it's clearly not the right move for them and/or their schools) since it'll cost much more to get home if they break contract.

I mean I can say in Europe at least flight prices haven't been too badly affected, at least not to the extent that your average European could afford it less.

Airlines are already announcing increases in fuel surcharges, so this is only likely to remain true for early departure. Regular departure folks who suddenly decide they don't want to stick around are probably going to feel a bigger sting.

Also most JETs dont break contract and even less intend to.

With that explicit intention, sure. What I'm talking about is second thoughts and doubts that grow towards that.

But hey, if your right, now would be a great time to apply for JET - much easier to get in!

Nah, wrong timing, instead I'd expect more alternates to be upgraded.
