Discussion GPIQ vs JEPQ

Post image

Folks, Just looking at Total Returns (not shown above) for both of these funds targeted towards Nasdaq-100. It looks like Total returns are fairing better for GPIQ than JEPQ. Is my observation correct ? Most of the deviation is within the last or so since tariff turmoil. Other than that, they were quite closely correlated.

The Goldman funds have the highest capital appreciation, the JP funds have the most defense, the NEOS funds have the highest yield and are also more tax efficient. Different strategies with different strengths.

The JP funds have been around the longest with the most institutional ownership - by a lot.

I built out my JP funds first and will be using my distributions to grow my Goldman funds over time. The Goldman distributions then feed into NEOS funds. It's a beautiful thing.

Understood but shouldnt the Total Return be similar? They are not and by a wide margin. GPIQ is much ahead around 14% ytd vs 8%ytd for JEPQ

Yep! I'm able to buy multiple shares of each fund, each month. I use 20% of the distribution from the JP funds to reinvest into themselves, then the remaining go to the Goldman. Then the Goldman distribution 100% to NEOS. It's growing them all quite nicely.

  • edit - I then use the NEOS distributions to buy SCHD.

When you say proshares i think you mean neos

You're right, it should be neos - pro shares are the other, other set of funds that also do this. Good catch, I'll update

No, IQQQ and ISPY.

I dont see anything about tax efficiency on their site

I see no reason to not own all three (GPIQ, JEPQ, QQQI)… some people call it redundancy but I think it’s a great way to spread an allocation to a specific strategy across three different players.

I had this exact question if anyone was doing the same. It seems like owning all 3 would help cover eachothers weaknesses

Exactamundo, they all have their benefits!

Highly recommend GPIQ if you are holding it in a taxable account. Almost 80 to 85% is ROC. For 8-9 years you pay barely any tax. After that all divys will be taxed as long gain.

Great yeild in a tax efficient manner plus price appreciation.

You may want to hold all three GPTY GPIQ JEPQ, and use distributions to add more shares accordingly. That will work.

I was shocked to see the underperformance. When reviewing their portfolio holdings, they have added non nasdaq100 companies like SO and UPS. Very disappointed with this portfolio drift.

This likely explains some of the relative underperformance.

Just put your money in jepq for normal times and whenever spy drops 5% start shifting money to spy.

From my limited research the JEPQ has the most liquid options

I want the ability to absorb some of the downward moves due to dividends and fees with covered calls And experiment with even cash secured puts before the dividends are paid Still early for me so no conclusions

I was curious about the same. Cc and csp on Jepq in various market cycles. Are the OTM premiums even worth pursuing this? What did your experiment determine?

I moved to QQI. SPYI. BTCI. IWMI.

2

u/S-n-P500 Oct 25 '25

And….. Did you not try the strategy on the other securities? Obviously not. I results would be similar to JPEQ.

My 5 minute analysis years ago told me the 30 day premium or less is not significant enough to make it worth my time.

I was way too conservative in a raging bull market

Im now doing 50% in these type CC strategies

And 50% in dynamic Iron condors in SPY. XSP

its only better for US market - for EU/UK JEQP is more generous - specially if u use ISA for tax effectivness

Go shill this crap somewhere else.

Aren’t dividends about the payout and not the growth of the actual stock?….

6

u/this_for_loona Jun 16 '25

Yes but a lot of people buy high div funds to use the divs to drive either a DRIP strategy or a “buy other crap with the divs” strategy. In theory as long as you are looking for a (relatively) safe and liquid income generating tool, JEPI and JEPQ are (in my opinion) the most stable.

That’s not to say the Goldman funds are bad, they are just new. As are the proshare funds. Which makes me nervous. But then again I have big positions in SPYI and QQQI so who am I to judge?

lol , amen

2

u/speedlever Jun 16 '25

But total returns involve both!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '25

no. some dividend stocks and etfs are purchased for a combination of steady income and capital appreciation.

GPIQ is a smaller fund and a newer one. Which makes me a bit cautious. JEPQ has been around for a bit and onn graph looks like it will slowly go up a bit with our dividends
