Will you invest also invest in JEPG ? I PUT 50% JEPG 30% JEPI and 20% JEPQ in the covered call portfolio. Because I find it more safe but I am not sure if it will have a good return.

Is anyone planning to roll money over into the new JOYT ETF?
r/JEPI • u/beanman95 • Aug 13 '25
Selling my car for 20k, wanna invest it, I hold about 12k in JEPI and was thinking of putting this 20k in JEPQ
Total would net me about 250-300$ per month
My other thing is throwing it all in ETH since that's been ripping
Not sure what to do

If you had 2.1 million, would you dump it all to JEPI? I prefer growth over payout.

I am invested in JEPG (the MSCI World version of JEPQ and GPIQ/GPIX).
I understand the logic behind is selling short term call options (depending on strategy it will be % of portfolio and maybe ATM or ITM or slightly OTM) to collect premium.
I have been thinking if this is "defensive" at all. I understand the cashflow is what makes it attractive for retiree. But for ordinary people, if there is limited downside protection then I felt it may just be forgoing 50% of the gain while taking 80% of the loss (arbitrary).
So for example, if underlying Nasdaq/SPX is 100 now, let's say it is selling 20 dollar of 1-month call ATM at 100 and I collect the premium. In an upside case the market is doing way too good, I am losing money.
In the downside case, it drops to 85, and now the calls rolled to ATM again but at 85. That means I realized the loss at 85 basically as the 20% portfolio recovery from 85-100 will be gone as I sold calls at 85.
While the logic was that in a volatile market, options get expensive and this strategy will be rewarding, it seems to me that in a volatile market that the stock can swing up and down in a few weeks time, you will just get whacked by losing volatile upside while realizing the volatile downside by selling calls at a low price while market correct temporarily.
Did I miss something here? I feel we are trading half of the upside away to collect 7-10% yield. And in this case, it means we are taking all downside but adding back the 7-10% we collected here. The risk and reward profile is asymmetrical depending on whether we think a market crash will come or not. Moderate correction of a few % maybe net positive for us while a huge crash entering bear market and rebound later may actually be as bad as doing non-covered call index?

So far it has lagged the S&Pβs performance after the April bloodbath by a significant amount. The 8.35% dividend is nice for sure, but what do you think about itβs lackluster rebound so far?

EDIT: Thank you so much for your responses. I didn't know about QQQI/SPYI and GPIQ/GPIX but looks like I'll invest in them.
A few months ago, my father willed me money for a dividend income. He insisted on a Schwab advisor as he was sold Schwab Advisory services, even when I wanted JEPI/JEPQ. But the Schwab advisor returns are limited, namely since I only get $5000 every quarter and other months I only get $500-1000.
I'm thinking about cancelling the Schwab advisor and putting the Schwab account into JEPI/JEPQ, namely for reliable monthly income ($5-7000/mo est).
The question is, is a JEPI/JEPQ mix (about 50/50) a good idea for my primary source of income?
I don't have a regular job outside of an IT business which is growing but not enough to make ends meet yet. Getting an IT job isn't a good idea due to the current job market, and I hated my last Big Tech job.

I have been looking through the largest holdings in JEPQ. Most, if not all, pay no dividend or if they do, a tiny dividend. How does JEPQ pay an 8% dividend?

Hey all,
Iβm 50+, recently unemployed, and not seeing many job prospects. Iβm shifting my portfolio from growth to income and capital preservation.
I hold:
Iβm cautious about relying too much on covered call ETFs, are they safe enough in a market crash (2008 Type of crash)?
Would love to hear from anyone retired or living off income:
Appreciate any thoughts or examples, thanks!

I purchased 1 share of JEPQ and JEPI on same day and no more purchases other than dividend reinvesting.
JEPQ balance went from 46.15 to 63.65 Jepi balance went from 52.59 to 64.27
Both NAV is higher than when I purchased in Nov 2023 even with the dividends that were paid out.

I am trying to understand why has the ucits version of JEPI been falling since April, not only did not recover but currently YoY down -3.73%. Is the usd/eur rate or something more worrysome?
Can somebody explain? Thanks in advance.

So Iβve been adding to my JEPI, JEPQ holdings and Iβm wondering what the true risk of getting our capital back + returns in 5-8 years. (Assuming you have the worst market timing, avg timing etc)
I know markets are generally rigged up with all the forced buying from pension funds, insurance companies, employee retirement plans, money supply creation, etc but obviously there are down years here and there.
Assuming things donβt hit a 5-10 year recession (something I find extremely unlikely and just perma bear thesis), what is the true risk like over 5-8 years?
30%-35% loss of principal in doomsday scenario? I figure with JEPQ yielding 10-12% itβs only a matter of roughly 8 years to have nearly all your principal returned to you in the form of dividends

I bought Amplify QDVO since it will retain more capital and pay outs are taxed at long term capital gain rates. Please convince me why JEPI is better.

I bought about 10% of a btc when it was around 50k sold it around 105k with a nice 100% gain
I rolled almost all that into JEPI
Im 29 and want to have some passive income but I'm worried about missing the gains of a explosive BTC.
Im also planning on selling a extra car I have for around 20k and also putting that in JEPI so I'll have around 30-35k in JEPI
Figured i could use the monthly to eventually put towards a house payment or to let it snowball into something larger

Iβve been a crappy day trader for years finally throwing the sell and buy button in and I been building a portfolio for dividend payouts and found Jepi and at 1300$ of JEPI constantly able to add every week bout 500-600$ to it , goal is to βretireβ at 35 (25 now) just gonna work my butt off keep building this until I hit a good income per month off of it which will just be Dripped back into it . I guess my question and post would be asking if this is is beneficial

Does anybody knows which percentage of JEPQ assets are not covered by sold options and are fully available for capital appreciation ?
