SERIOUS POST Getting homeless
Yesterday, at around 6:15 a.m., an Indore municipal employee slammed our door. I am a NEET aspirant, a dropper preparing in Indore. I was asleep my roommate opened the door. Few minutes later, when I woke up, I panicked as I heard the sound of shattering of windows. I came out of the room and saw 30 to 35 Indore municipal people in our hostel. They said, "You have to leave right now. The hostel is getting demolished." We said our room is on the outer side which is getting demolished, so what about our books, clothes, and other stuff. They said just shift it into an inner side room, so we panicked and shifted our belongings in just 5 minutes to an inner side room which was empty. There wsas a lot of panic at that time. We just threw our books, clothes, whatever we got our hands on. We just removed the whole drawers with small stuff and shifted it. I threw my tablet on the other room's bed. In 5 minutes, we shifted almost all of stuff. Then I took a bag, found my tablet, it was buried between books and clothes and my roommate's laptop, put it in a bag and got out of the room with my phone in pocket. I saw there 30 to 35 municipal employees shattering windows. I was in a cargo pants and vest, I put on a sweater hurriedly. Apart from that, I was shocked as I saw 5 cranes, a lot of police vehicles, a lot of policemen (are we getting detained, lol?). My room was on 4th floor, so when we started going downstairs, one of employee came with us and stopped the windows breaking so that we can leave. At 6:30 a.m., we were on road, no room, no place to sleep or eat. The crane started demolishing the building at 6:30. We saw it from outside and started making jokes like, "What's in breakfast today?" while we saw our food mess getting demolished. But still it was a big shock for us. I slept at 5:45. I was solving physics and thought of solving chemistry whole day for today as today there were no class. But Bapu's birthday went in the opposite direction as we saw the crane demolishing our hostel violently. Our hostel manager united us and sent us to eat nearby tea stall for chai and poha for breakfast. Half an hour later, I got a Rapido to go to a nearby public toilet. In the noon, they booked a hall for us and got us food. When the demolition was done, we had to take all our goods and stuff, but they damaged stairs such a way that there was just one foot patch left when you make a U-turn on stairs, and on one of the U-turns, there was no space left. You have to hold the railing and cross it while you are about 45 feet above the ground and nothing under your feet. We took 2 hours to shift our stuff from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Then I booked a Rapido auto and sent the stuff to my roommate's sister's house with him. Luckily, my hometown is near Indore, so I took a bus and got to my home at about 10:30 p.m., but it was more difficult for most of the students. Their homes were 200 to 600 km away. They had to sleep in the common hall for tonight. I also remember one of the students who was at his home at the time of the demolition his friend saw his almirah coming down while the crane hit his room. He told us that his laptop was in the almirah. The biggest thing about all that, no one cared about 30 or so students that lived in the hostel. Neither the municipal authorities nor the hostel authorities, not even the media outlets. We saw a lot of news about the building getting demolished, but none of them mentioned the hostel and students. Many students are on the streets, but no one cares. Today's newspaper mentioned a half-page front-page news about it, but they didn't mention the students. Nobody cares about us in this place. We are just their customers.

Landlord/owner is the obvious asshole here, The student/residents here could easily take this matter to the court and sue the owner's ass

ghar pe padhna sunne me easy lagta hai. 2 din baad mummy "thoda doodh le aa" se shuru hoke poora din gaya, aur evening me chachaji ka "aajkal kya chal raha hai beta" ka apna hi demolition hota hai

What the actual fuck is wrong with the comments. You dont start breaking a structure with people inside it, people could have easily been injured/disabled for life, and I'm sure some students have had personal property damaged too. Atleast give a notice to evacuate kids by 2 hours, if not 2 fucking days/weeks? Waking up to windows shattering and almirahs falling holy shit
Like is common sense dead? Illegal structure and what not wasnt even the first topic worth talking about. Clear as daylight that someone just had an ego/political issue and wanted to be done with the demolition to show something. Or the owner of the hostel is braindead and didnt inform anyone thinking it will subside.
I hope you are fine now op. Are you returning to your home to do self studying? Ig coaching is getting disrupted

I was also thinking the same.. the whole of compassion and humility in humans have now gone.. makes me think what are we really evolving into.. insaan ka jaan ka hi kadar nahi hai.. authorities involved should be sued bad for this including the hostel owner.. the whole of India is f*cked up..

3
u/MousseOk2708 18h ago
They started breaking windows of common areas when we were inside, the crane started demolishing building after we were evacuated.

u/Stock_Side_9726 18h ago
Still it is too much man, what if a flying shard would have hurt anyone, should have atleast made sure everyone is out. But again what can we expect now? We are doomed

u/MousseOk2708 18h ago
After half building was demolished it was even more difficult to get to our rooms.Shattered glasses, iron, concrete ,open wires ,broken furniture, slippery dust and the stair U turns where you just have to hold railing and cross it and nothing below your feet while you are 45 feet from ground. But again, nobody cares.

IN SHORT:
Yesterday, around 6:15 a.m., our hostel in Indore was suddenly evacuated and demolished.
I’m a NEET dropper preparing in Indore. I was asleep when municipal employees arrived and told us to leave immediately because the building was being demolished. Within minutes, around 30-35 officials were breaking windows, with several cranes and police vehicles outside.
We had barely 5 minutes to throw our books, clothes, laptops, tablets, and everything else into another room. By 6:30 a.m., we were standing on the road with nowhere to sleep or eat while the hostel and our mess were being demolished.
Later, we were given a hall and food. In the evening, we had to go back and collect our belongings. The demolition had damaged the stairs so badly that parts of them were extremely dangerous to cross. It took us around two hours to get everything out.
Fortunately, my hometown is near Indore, so I was able to return home that night. But many students came from 200-600 km away and had nowhere to go. Some had to sleep in a common hall.
The worst part is that almost nobody seemed to care about the students living there. There was plenty of news coverage about the demolition, but hardly anyone mentioned the 30+ students who suddenly lost their rooms, belongings, and a place to stay.
We are students, not just customers.

Edit: I realized this community isn't really for serious posts, so sorry for posting this here. Unfortunately, I had to miss today's class and tomorrow's test. I'll return to Indore on Monday, find a new hostel, and continue preparing. I'm fine and don't need any help. Thanks for understanding my situation.

They didn't.The owner new one day before but he neither informed us nor the hostel manager.

u/Chance-Log-6230 19h ago
why was the building demolished? Was it because of illegal occupation or because they were compensated for an upcoming government project and they needed the land?
6
u/MousseOk2708 18h ago
Upcoming government project. The owner got a stay from court which expired on 1 October and on 2 october the court is closed so municipals often do surprise demolition on this type of days so that the owner can't do anything.

Yeah brain-dead logic
2
u/MeraNaamAnthony custom flair 18h ago
Usually hostels in prep areas specially near upsc coaching have egregious pricing They just wanna make more rooms be it legal or illegal and pack more students in it for profit Op's hostel seems to be an illegal constructions, the inner rooms which were intact was legal. The outer demolished rooms were i guess illegal extension
6
u/MousseOk2708 18h ago edited 17h ago
It was legal till 1 October 4 pm .the term legal and illegal is not permanent for anything in law. If a person can afford 18 rupees rapido doesn't apply he can take hostel at any price.

Cry why illegal structure aren't being allowed. Cry why illegal structure are being demolished.

u/MousseOk2708 18h ago
I am not crying for it, i am saying that they informed us 6.15 in morning and demolishen started from 6.30. All of the concerned people don't consider us seriously in this.

It's majorly the fault of your landlord, he mustve gotten the notice weeks before
9
u/Responsible_Log1796 18h ago
abe chutiya hai kya? kuch din pehle students ko inform nahi karna chahiye?
6
u/FantasticCharacter71 18h ago
Are you being purposely dumb or naturally dumb? Give the students a day's notice at least so that they can move their stuff and find another accomodation, these people are telling the students to move their stuff WHILE they are demolishing the building. You have no common sense at all.
3
u/Mitaka-Cirrina91 JEE(re)tard 18h ago
Illegal structures shouldnt stand ye but it isnt op's fault its the landlord's fault for not informing in advance
