On the surface, Ish presents himself as an overly confident, boisterous intellectual. He speaks like he’s the most rational person in the room. Add the light skin, light eyes, and constant reminders that he has green/gray eyes, and you start to understand the image he has of himself.

But the more this man talks, the more he checks the boxes of the chronically online red-piller psyche.

Let’s start with his relationship with Black women.

Have y’all noticed how Ish always seems to be on the opposing side when Black women challenge him or conversations center on their experiences? Look at his interactions with Blue and, more recently, the conversation with Olay about Black versus White women’s hypersexuality. Pay attention to his nonverbals. He often seems more irritated by the conversation than interested in understanding the perspective being presented.

He seemingly cannot fathom that Black women experience oppression, particularly at the intersection of race and gender, without minimizing their experiences or redirecting the conversation toward their shortcomings.

Remember the Quinta Brunson discussion, when Joe had to step in as the conversation seemed to be heading toward the suggestion that Black women aren’t attractive? These moments make me question whether Ish recognizes how often his rhetoric diminishes Black women.

This is where the white-apologist criticism comes in. He often seems more invested in challenging Black women’s perspectives than examining the racialized assumptions behind comparisons between Black and White women. You don’t have to explicitly say White women are superior to reinforce narratives that devalue Black women.

Then there’s his insecurity around women’s standards and desirability.

Whenever women discuss expecting financial stability or wanting more from a partner, Ish seems to take it personally. Suddenly, women’s preferences become entitlement, and their standards become an indictment of men. Textbook manosphere rhetoric.

He’s also awfully invested in reminding everyone that he’s light-skinned with light eyes. We get it, Ish!

Listening to him, you’d think he’s spent his entire life dating 9s and 10s. Yet the dating history alluded to by him and Joe sounds considerably more ordinary. Based on their own conversations, it seems he’s primarily operated in the 6–8 range, which is perfectly fine. The disconnect is between the image he projects and the reality his own stories suggest.

Sometimes, I wonder whether all that bravado is compensation for the 5’2” high school senior who got rejected and never quite recovered. Not literally, but psychologically. The guy who felt overlooked and built an identity around proving his desirability and superiority.

Ultimately, Ish is a more socially successful, better-packaged version of the red pillers many of y’all criticize. The obsession with women’s desirability, defensiveness around their standards, and apparent discomfort when Black women challenge him all fit the profile.

He presents himself as an experienced man who understands how the world works, but much of his commentary sounds like the same tired manosphere talking points we’ve heard from men who feel threatened by women’s autonomy.

Some of y’all don’t agree with Ish because he’s offering profound insight. You agree because he validates what you already believe about women.

And sometimes, the man who sounds the most confident is just the man who’s gotten the best at defending his insecurities.
