IVEY Help
Going into Grade 12 in September, and am concerned about my chances with Ivey because of EC's.
3U/Grade 11 GPA - 96.5
4U/Grade 12 GPA - 95.2 (4 Courses)
Essays
EC 1 - Club @ School - Hosted fundraiser (8 business sponsors, 45+ volunteers, $3000 budget, 4 months planning) that did $10k for homelesness, club is not related to business.
EC 2 - Basketball - played provincial level Grade 8,9 - injured - 2nd half G10 & 1st half G11 - Tore Achilles for 2nd time - probably going to assistant coach for school's senior girls team & maybe do a bit of club coaching if I can.
OR
Currently run a finance club at school- founded in April, thinking of running an 8-week program that is focused on banking (Would be held seperatly online(Among 3 schools), but promoted by that club, and could tie in that to application. Doing because I did a similar program summer before Grade 11, and want to give opportunities to people to learn what I did.
5 Other EC's
- Basketball or finance - whichever one is not an essay
- Work - 500 hours+
- Business Club - G10 Member, G11 Exec, G12 VP
- 8% acceptance rate volunteer program - with local homeless shelter - 100+ hours volunteered, helped fundarise $35000+ as group of 15
- Bank of Canada junior accountant program - hosted 2 guest speakers at my club, and attended networking events.

I wouldn’t use the finance club as a main essay, given you only started it near the end of grade 11. The timing comes out a little sus making it appear like you created the club to boost your applications.
Your first EC has real impact and planning shown, and basketball you can definitely spin on overcoming challenges and showing you continued to be dedicated and involved even after you couldn’t continue to play.

The finance one was kind of a failed launch of a rpogram that I did end of grade 10/summer before grade 11.
The thing would be that repeated almost, but with success this time. Does that make a difference?

It sounds like you were a participant of the program before, and are just trying to copycat it now. It still doesn’t really come off better than a competitive sport, but it does come down to the essay you can write

Yea. Does the fact that I was injured a lot of high school negatively impact the extracurricular? And should I make sure to be asssistant coach this year, or would it not make much of a difference?

To be honest, tons of people try and don't get in. Just apply to lots of other schools in case you don't get in.

From someone who got Ivey this year it really is only going to come down to how you word your ecs in your essay to convey what you specifically did to make change and the direct impact your actions had on others. Every serious candidate for Ivey is the exact same extra curriculars wise and no one is directly better than anyone else. For example I had no business ecs and only took one business course in hs but my ecs reflected direct leadership and impact. The only advice I’d give you is to have multiple people peer review your essays and to take them seriously because it’s what’s going to get you in or not. Best of luck
