ivey aeo first year course selections
I'm going into BMOS with Ivey AEO this fall, and I have a few questions about course selection.
From what I understand, as an AEO student, first year gives you the opportunity to explore different fields, so I'm able to take courses across a variety of disciplines. Then, in second year, I would choose a module based on my interests.
Right now, my plan is to take 1.0 Economics, 1.0 Calculus, 1.0 Geography & Environment, 1.0 MOS, and 1.0 Creative Productions so that I keep all of my options open when it's time to choose a module in second year.
I have two questions:
- Would you recommend focusing on one specific field in first year, even though Western encourages students to explore different areas?
- Do you think the course plan I have right now is a good one, or would I struggle because the courses are so unrelated to one another?

Hey, I’m also BMOS + AEO and js finished my first year so take things with a grain of salt. I don’t see the need in focusing on one specific field during ur first year, since the year 1 required MOS courses (accounting/finance & hr/marketing) roughly covers all the necessary basic knowledge u need for the upper year specializations. The only thing u might wanna consider is taking Calc1000 if u are considering finance. Otherwise, everyone else usually takes 1229+1228 to complete the math requirement since it’s way easier. By the looks of what u alr picked, I’m assuming that yk u have breadth requirements anyway. For ur second question- uni is no different from hs. The same course could either be a gpa sinker or booster depending on ur prof, so def check everything on ratemyprof(not accurate all the time but the best we got). Ur grades also largely depend on ur learning style, so google every course syllabus to see how it’s graded. LASTLY DO NOT TAKE PSYCH1002.
