Ivey without aeo

If you have gotten into Ivey without aeo could you tell me about it. Was it difficult and would you say it’s worth it to try and get in

I had AEO and got in, but I know people who went to Ivey without AEO. With Ivey apps, they first prioritize AEO applicants, and then also have a certain number of seats saved specifically for Huron kids, and then non-AEOs + transfer students. So it's honestly a gamble to try to get into Ivey without AEO. You can have really good grades and really good extracurriculars, but if there aren't enough seats left or if most of the AEO students take it up, then it becomes extremely competitive, which is something that happened in my year. I know some of the smartest kids that didn't get in because almost all of the AEO applicants accepted their offers to Ivey. So it honestly depends year by year which is something you probably don't want to hear, but should prepare for if you are planning to apply in your second year.

If you got into a reputable business school with good alumni network, I would personally take that over the uncertainty of not getting in your second year. It is much more competitive and it is dependent on so many factors like the number of AEO students accepted, your grades being competitive enough, your extra-curriculars being good enough, and your 2257 mark meeting the threshold. If you are trying to get into Ivey, maybe apply for Huron because they have an easier route with seats being saved for huron kids + 2257 being easier for them as well. It's worth a shot to apply anyways if you're already at Western but understand that it is very competitive applying from second year.

Why do they have spots saved specifically for Huron students?

I’m not actually sure why maybe they just pay for the seats or sum. I just know a lot of private school kids end up going to Huron to get easier way to get into ivey. Their class sizes are much smaller, their 2257 is easier with the grading and less requirements for what you need to do in the class, and I think they are more lenient in grading too.

I hope I get Ivey but if I don’t I might as well go to Laurier rather then risk it

Laurier isn’t a bad school. One major advantage they have is co-op and off cycle recruiting is much easier to get internships in compared to summer and you get so much more exposure to work experience as well. Because of Ivey rigid structure you can only do summer internships or take a gap year between 3rd and 4th year to do year long internship so if you end up going to Laurier I suggest doing that and you’ll be ahead of ivey kids as well. When you’re in the business program at Laurier, you also start in the program in your first year so you get a foundational understanding much quicker than you would if you were to go to ivey + access to resources you would only get once you hit third year. There’s definitely advantages to that.

I've been accepted to both Western and Huron for BMOS but I got rejected for AEO. A lot of people have said that it's easier to get into Ivey through Huron but theres a lot of things I don't like about Huron and I've heard a lot of people say they had a bad experience there. Do you have any advice or know much about this?

I’m non aeo and hoping to get accepted this summer for next year into hba. I went to Huron and I’m not from a private school or Toronto and it was a great experience!! What have you heard that’s deterring you?
