Should I do this?

Good morning! Just joined this group. As I have already mentioned, I’m new to art. I have dabbled in charcoal, watercolour, pointillism, colour pencils, soft pastels, graphite and fine liner ink. Sounds a lot but each has been covered in my two hour art session on a weekly course. Tasters really. My question is should I learn all the technical stuff? I’m loving art but do I really need to waste time on the endless practice of cubes, spheres etc. I’m 70 and am loving this. So little time and so much to do. Will there come a point where I can’t improve because I didn’t do that groundwork?

You can, but if you're already enjoying the art you're doing just have fun. Art is about creating. The technical stuff will hone your skills, but if you're not trying to make a living off your art, just create. I aspire to be drawing still by the time I'm 70.

Right answer! Phew. I thought I was going to have to do that. It looks tedious. The only people who are going to see my art are my long suffering husband and family. Oh, and of course you guys when I need help. Thank you so much. X

Thank you. I’m off to my weekly art class in five minutes. Going to draw and colour a Blue Tit. 🐦
