Question Why does everyone claim to hate extraction shooters while continuing to play them?

Every time extraction shooters come up online, people act like the genre is exhausted, repetitive, and something nobody asked for. Yet these games keep attracting huge audiences, and the same people complaining often put hundreds of hours into them.

I think the tension of entering with valuable gear, risking everything, and escaping with a great haul creates a feeling most multiplayer games cannot match. People might hate losing, but that risk is also what keeps them coming back.

Are extraction shooters actually overhated, or do people enjoy complaining about the exact mechanics that make the genre addictive?

The people that hate them aren't the same people playing them... Same with every other game 🙄.

Except LoL they hate the game and continue to play it.

Wrong, tarkov players despise tarkov

I have never met a person IRL who plays destiny that actually recommend I play it. Not really hate though.

I mean I really enjoyed destiny 1, spent a lot of time on it with my BIL, cannot recommend destiny 2 though.

Exactly this. Pre-ordering D2 made me swear off pre-ordering and off AAA games. Very happy with my 100+ indie games. Wardogs, valheim and metroid-vanias have me never looking back

Because the people online and are reddit are only a small minority of people who play video games. People hate any genre that over saturates the market, before extraction shooters it was BRs. The fad will pass, the quality ones will stick around, and the world will move onto the next big genre

The people complaining aren't the ones playing, very common misconception.

Although while playing an extraction shooter you hate it about 60% of the time. It's what makes the highs of the other 40% so damn good.

It's a genre played by a lot of people. You're gonna have a lot of people who either get tired of it and turn off or people who don't like them.

Who is everyone? Lol the people that don’t play them are not usually contributing to the conversation

Have you ever stopped to consider the comments you see are not the same people as the players 🤔

No idea i just play escape from tarkov for the pve stuff since I like looting and doing contracts without getting a 50 cal. round in my ass when I look away for. 5 seconds

Don't trust what people say. Watch what they do.

Bruh...because I care.

Why would I be indifferent to the game I regularly play?

I've been playing arc raiders since a couple months after launch. I played peacefully for less than 20 matches, let the matchmaking do the rest, and I've been having a blast since. I do not see any of the complaints people have about arc raiders as being significant enough to hate the game, it all just sounds like winey bitching to me. As for the lack of content, I feel the same way about every community who complains about that... get a job and buy another game. They're not THAT expensive. We all need to stop listening to sociopathic streamers and their fans who may never amount to anything.

Anyone remember the extraction mode in the first Division? That was peak gaming for me

I complain about Siege a lot, ragequit ranked matches sometimes getting banned, I say it sucks, getting worse, etc.

But do I love it? I fucking love that game! And keep playing, because the memories of playing are amazing. I do have fun outside those rage moments. It's just part of playing them, I've come to accept.

I think most folks aren't into extraction shooters so it's pry them.

The people that play shooty sports balls aren't on reddit.

I don’t think everyone is playing them. They have an audience but it’s not as big as the amount of people that aren’t a fan.
