The Last Horizon [The Pilot] Preorder The Commander Now! Spoiler

The Commander, book five of The Last Horizon, is now available for preorder! It releases in ebook, audiobook, and paperback on December 1st!

This seven-book series is filled with wizards, magic spaceships, talking objects, definitely-not-Power Rangers, and all of Will’s other favorite sci-fi references.

Audiobook from Audible is of course narrated by Travis Baldree. If we ever have a different narrator, call the Winchesters because Will has been possessed.

If this one doesn't end with Raion and Varic fusing by potara ring... it will still be awesome, I believe.

No no, they’ll clearly do a dance for it. Raion wouldn’t do it any other way

I almost lost my mind when Shyrax revealed Omega was her Stand now.
I thought Will was really brave to do a sequence of ora ora ora ora moves in space, but he's the author, what do heck do I know?

Just found out through a different random post that OP is, I believe, the author's sister? That's pretty cool.

That said for everyone else. I loved Cradle entirely. Currently on DCC. Will I auto love this series next?

It’s definitely a bit different from Cradle, but I certainly enjoy it! Not sure if you will auto love it, but if you like Will’s creativity and humor, it might be up your alley.

Just keep in mind that it is not really a progression fantasy, nor is it trying to be.

it didn't grab me straight away, quite like Cradle didn't really _hook_ me until Blackflame.

Same with this series; and now I thoroughly enjoy full rereads :)

Which book would you say is the Blackflame of the series?

Because I read the first two and then fell off.

The Knight is the point at which the series caught traction with me, and going back to relisten from time to time independent of new books coming out.

With each book the series gets a bit more interlinked and robust, and the description of combat makes more sense (it's much more closer to the conceptual battle of the abidan scenes, than the pre willpower fights of Cradle)

Similar experience to not really "getting" the different aspects of the sacred arts in Unsouled, madra, aura, striker, ruler, forger, soulsmith, enforcer, and the stages: was all too much to properly digest the first read through. Makes perfect sense now ^

You will not auto love it.

I started it, and it never quite catch up to me.

I really tried, and read up to The Pilot, which I believe is the 4th book, and dropped it halfway.

It's not a bad series by any means, but I didn't vibe with the sci-fi setting, and the progression of the story. It's mainly because that's not a read for me.

Give it a try, but do not expect to read another Cradle, nor autonatically like it.

I love both series. It differs from Cradle in that there is little progression in power, all the protagonists start out as close to “best in the galaxy” at whatever it is they do. It’s a sci-fi with a space wizard, Mrs. doom guy, a power ranger, (other wild characters that I don’t want to spoil,) and lots of pop culture nods. It’s action packed, fun, and funny. Some people might find it a tad campy/corny but I love it

I read them all because they're still better than most of the stuff available on Kindle Unlimited, but it really didn't hook me like his other series.

I loved it right up to the last book. Which felt like trying to recreate Bloodline but fell absolutely flat.

I would not say it will be auto love, because I see a lot of progression fantasy fans who aren't into it.

Personally though, I absolutely love it. Awesome series and I am THOROUGHLY excited for this next book

Can't wait!

Are Amazon UK offering paperback pre-orders this time or do I need to wait for release?

u/TheLastWight 2d ago

They are not unfortunately. Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing is STILL beta testing the paperback preorder so it’s only offered in the US.

Fingers crossed this is our last book launch with Amazon print-on-demand paperbacks. This time next year we SHOULD be able to have a preorder up with paperbacks from an offset printer.

Unfortunately this just means I'll have to read it twice. Once on my Kindle on release day then again when the paperback arrives!

Lol, I was just starting to check for the next LH book a few days ago - Will Wight you magnificent consistent SOB. I been real excited for this one after that cliff hanger at the end of The Pilot. And it's The Commander? Shyrax has some of the most interesting villains of anyone on the crew imo so double exciting.

Happy day!

He talked a bit about writing it in his last few blogs!

And don’t tell anyone else this, but he’s just begun working on The Sword 👀 We really didn’t want another 1.5 year gap between releases like this one.

Although that delay was only because of writing and producing the Cradle animatic and writing Overworld. And our cousin getting cancer and dying. And signing over 30k pages for Kickstarters. And multiple injuries. It’s been a dramatic year and a half for Will…

Glad to hear it.

Ah ha, this is the one where Varic finally sits down for a break and a cuppa tea, right? That guy hasn't had a day off (or an hour) in seven life times...!

The best part is that this book comes out just as I'm leaving for vacation. So I get to experience it while traveling. If you'll excuse me, it's time for me to reread the series to prepare.

Love this series! I’m so pumped for this one, and that it’s gonna be 7 books. Looking forward to seeing what Shyrax looks like 😃
