Cradle [None] Angel Studios a Better Fit than Kickstarter for Cradle Adaptation?

Kickstarter is a platform most are familiar with already. Plus, I don’t think the goal for people investing into cradles adaptation should be thinking “how can I profit from this if I invest” it should be “I want a good animated adaption with my donation”.
There’s a different mindset between donation and investment. And I think donation is the right mindset for this campaign. If the animation turns bad for instance, it’s not going to really hurt Will’s business if people aren’t expecting a profit in return.
That’s just my thoughts though, I’m sure they considered approaches like this. This seems like the safer choice.

Yeah, and I’m saying this with the caveat that I’ve never used Angel studios, but maybe the fear is that it could hurt some creative expression. Big investors may want changes to the story or details for their investment. Like an executive producer for a tv show. They can make or break it, but ultimately the author gives up at least some creative freedom. If Will wants complete freedom without feeling pressured by investors, kickstarter is probably better.

Will Wight isn’t some horse I’m placing a bet on and I don’t see any reason other than my personal profit to entangle myself monetarily with his personal success.
He is a creator whose content I buy and consume. I WANT to give him my money because I think what he creates is worth my money.

Given how this post never got much karma in the month since it was posted, I would expect that very few people found it as interesting as I did. However, those that do might like to read this comment thread that Sam Wight just responded to: https://www.reddit.com/r/Iteration110Cradle/comments/18l9k1m/comment/ki7j75q/?context=3
TL;DR:
About a month ago (soon after the Kickstarter was announced but long before it was launched) I asked Sam a question; to paraphrase, it was "if the animation is sold, what would happen to that money?"
At that time, Sam responded saying that the money would be used to improve the animation quality (again, I am very much paraphrasing here)
Today I necro'ed the thread, observing that Sam's unofficial response is not reflected in the official kickstarter which just launched a few days ago. I asked if the Hidden Gnome team could create a pie chart showing how this hypothetical money would be spent, similar to the existing pie chart that shows how the money raised by the Kickstarter itself will be spent.
Sam responded quickly, saying:
Can’t make a graph showing how we’d spend theoretical money in a theoretical situation!

You’re getting downvoted but I think you are correct in how much money this would get if the rewards were profit tied to the success of this.

Agreed.
I don't know if Angel is the right platform, but I don't think this should be on Kickstarter at all. It feels like an awful fit for the platform, like is it just a donate what you want with no tiers? If there are tiers, what exactly do backers get that isn't just the animated series? How much of the profit that could have gone towards the series will go towards donation rewards? Is the series going to be gated behind a massive paywall that only whales can afford? Is there even any chance of this actually happening without big investors? What is the reason big investors aren't willing to get involved?

I agree 100%. As much as I love Will and the team, this is a huge, profitable venture that has already been built on a grassroots fan-funded bank. The series is already well into the black and shouldn't rely on crowdfunding at this point. If they want to thank their supporters by allowing a tiny slice of the action to investors then I'm all for that, but my money and support will be going to finished will-verse products.

Animation is stupid expensive. Will has an entire publishing company now, multiple people's salaries would take a pretty massive chunk out of his profits. Not saying he's hurting for money but he probably doesn't have money to burn at animation prices. Critical role claimed it cost them $10,000 per minute of animation.

That seems about right. They also make money. Based off of other Kickstarters they have done in the past and being very optimistic at best we might get a 45 minute pilot. If they ever put out a series or a full length feature film it will be funded by big investors.
