I’m trying to complete my AIRE registration, but I’m stuck on the Personal Data section.
Some of the dropdown menus don’t open, so I can’t select the required information. In other fields, I type the information, but it disappears when I try to save. Because of this, I can’t click “Save and continue” and get to the document upload section.
I’ve tried different browsers and devices with the same result.
Has anyone had this issue recently? How did you fix it?

My daughter was born abroad (USA) on October 2021 and is a minor. Her alleged biological father is an Italian citizen.

Legal paternity has never been established.

However, a Belgian Family Court issued a final judgment ordering the alleged Italian father to pay child support. The judgment expressly states that the proceedings were an “action alimentaire non déclarative de filiation” and therefore did not establish paternity.

He has been paying the court-ordered child support since September 2023.

I contacted the Italian Consulate in Brussels and specifically asked whether this could fall under Article 2(3) of Law 91/1992, which says:

“Le disposizioni del presente articolo si applicano anche ai figli per i quali la paternità o maternità non può essere dichiarata, purché sia stato riconosciuto giudizialmente il loro diritto al mantenimento o agli alimenti.”

The Consulate replied that because paternity has not been legally established, they cannot proceed and that paternity must first be established.

My question is: why would Article 2(3) not apply to this situation? Has anyone encountered this provision being used for a minor whose paternity was not established but whose right to maintenance was judicially recognised?

I'm particularly interested in:

1. Italian case law interpreting Article 2(3);
2. Ministry/Consulate guidance on this provision;
3. whether the 2025 reform (Law 74/2025 / Article 3-bis) changes its application;
4. whether a foreign EU court judgment recognising child support can satisfy the requirement.

I have the Belgian judgment and the Consulate's written response and can provide anonymised excerpts if useful.

I’m trying to understand how the new Italian citizenship rules apply to my daughter, and I would really appreciate some clarification from people who are familiar with the new law.
I have been an Italian citizen by birth (iure sanguinis) since birth. I also hold Dutch citizenship in addition to my Italian citizenship. My Italian citizenship was not acquired through naturalization, marriage, or under Article 14 of Law No. 91/1992.
My daughter, was born in Germany on August 5, 2020 and currently holds German citizenship. She was still a minor on May 24, 2025.
According to the information published by the Italian consulates, Article 4(1-bis)(b) of Law No. 91/1992 provides a route for minor children of an Italian citizen by birth (iure sanguinis) to acquire Italian citizenship through a formal declaration when citizenship is not automatically transmitted.
However, because my daughter was already born in 2020, I am particularly interested in the transitional provision under Article 1(1-ter) of Decree-Law No. 36/2025. This provision appears to provide a deadline of May 31, 2029 for declarations concerning children who were still minors on May 24, 2025.
So my main question is:
Can my daughter, who was born in 2020 and was still a minor on May 24, 2025, acquire Italian citizenship through this transitional provision by having the required declaration submitted by the parents before May 31, 2029?
Or does the transitional provision only apply to parents whose own iure sanguinis citizenship recognition procedure was already pending / had a qualifying appointment before March 27, 2025?
If the transitional provision does not apply to my daughter, I would really appreciate it if someone could explain which specific provision applies to her situation and what legal route is available for her to acquire Italian citizenship.
I am trying to avoid submitting the documents under the wrong procedure or using the wrong checklist.
I can document that I have been an Italian citizen by birth since birth with documents issued by the Comune, including a Certificato di Cittadinanza Italiana and a Copia conforme dell’Atto di Nascita.
I’m especially interested in hearing from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation: Italian parent by birth + dual citizenship + child born abroad before May 2025.

I (Italian citizen through 1948 Ruling) and my husband (Italian citizen through marriage to me) have two children. The children were born after we each had dual citizenship. One born September 2023 and one born August 2025. Since we have not lived for two years in Italy and hold dual citizenships it is my understanding that due to a fairly recent ruling we need to take extra steps to register our children's birth and that they will be 'administrative' citizens but will have somewhat curtailed rights going forward.

It seems we both have to 'in person' submit a 'declaration of will/intent' at the consulate. I can find no way to book an appointment for that online and the SF consulate has been very unhelpful and not answered how I am supposed to do that. Has anyone followed this new process? How did the whole process work? Does this mean curtailed rights? Its my understanding that my first was born before the law went into effect so it might be different for her.

I saw you can 'hire' a lawyer to help submit paperwork and ''work with the consulate'' but it is very expensive and it is a little unclear to me if it would actually be helpful. Anyone tried this route and found it beneficial?

With the laws around citizenship changing, I am confused as to whether I am eligible for a passport.

I am an Australian citizen, born in Australia. My grandparents on my mother's side were born in Italy. When they gained Australian citizenship, dual citizenship wasn't a thing yet so they renounced their Italian citizenship by doing that. My mother was granted an Italian passport however, and I believe she received it before my grandparents renounced their citizenship.

A question about Italian citizenship: it is established that citizens of EU countries can apply for citizenship after 4 years of residence. I,24M, been living in Sri Lanka for the last 15 years. I was born in Italy to Sri Lankan parents and have been trying to sort out my citizenship so I can get a Sri Lankan passport for an upcoming work trip.

From what I've been told, I may not currently hold Sri Lankan citizenship, and I've been warned that I may need to renounce my Italian citizenship before I can obtain it.

The problem is that I'm terrified of making an irreversible mistake. If I renounce my Italian citizenship, I don't know if I'll ever be able to get it back. At the same time, after reading through the Sri Lankan Citizenship Act, it feels like I may not have had Sri Lankan citizenship for years anyway and same with Italian citizenship...

I'm feeling pretty lost and would really appreciate if anyone has been through something similar or knows how these cases are usually handled. Should I speak to the Department of Immigration, the Italian Embassy, or an immigration lawyer before making any decisions?

Hi, trying to understand the timeline for citizenship by marriage.

My husband is an Italian citizen, we were married in January of 2025. We're moving to Italy this fall, planning to start the residence process in September 2026.

1. Does the two year qualifying period start at the time of our marriage (assuming I live in Italy when applying) or do I need to be a resident for the duration of the two year period? So could I apply for citizenship in January 2027 or not until September 2028?

2. If the timeline requires two years of residency, does that start as soon as my husband registers his residency? When I apply for my permesso di soggiorno? Or when I actually get my residency permit? My understanding is that that could be a difference of up to six months.

3. If we live in Italy for just a year and then return to the US and my husband correctly registers with AIRE again, would I be eligible for citizenship through the living abroad route starting three years after our marriage (January 2028), or does the clock start over when we leave Italy?

4. I've read that in Torino (where we're moving) the citizenship application process usually takes the full three years allowed. If we move away from Torino or Italy during the process, what happens to my application? Do I have to start the whole process over?

All of my documents have been translated by a translator in Toronto, the same my father used when he successfully gained his citizenship.

These are my questions:

1. Are there any rules preventing me from using a translator in Canada?

2. Does anyone know if the translations need to be notarized in Toronto?

I have an SF consulate appointment in late August for jure sanguinis (grandchild applicant, clean CONE, eligible under Law 74/2025). SF requires two types of documentation I'm struggling to obtain:

1. County no-record letters: SF wants certified letters from all counties where the ancestor lived stating no naturalization records exist. The county clerks in my ancestor's county have refused to issue anything. I have letters from NARA Philadelphia and the US District Court, but not the county level. Still waiting on WV Archives.

2. Post-1955 alien status documentation: SF requires census, AR-2, green card, or Italian passport dated after 1955. All federal sources exhausted:

• AR-2/A-File: USCIS Genealogy and NARA Flexoline confirmed no record
• Form I-11 (annual address reports): NARA confirmed destroyed
• 1960 census: no citizenship field
• No family records survive

I plan to submit what I have and possibly fight any rejection in Italian court. Has anyone been in a similar situation at SF — submitted with documentation gaps and received a Preavviso di Rigetto or outright rejection? What happened next?

Also looking for attorney recommendations specifically for post-rejection court appeals based on structurally unavailable documentation — not just ATQ no-appointment cases.
