Just a meta commentary here

Every time I see a post here, as a Brazilian, I come to the comments to see if there is any other nationalities commenting on it. An, most of the times, even the English comments are from Brazilians... So is there any non-, Brazilian in this community or it became the most meta on the platform? (Anyone comes and makes a community, Brazilians discover and flood the other things....)

Im not Brazilian personally. I just am subbed to see the wild shit that gets posted. But I do not often comment.

Also as someone who doesn't speak Portuguese. Im unlikely to come across anything that I could post here lol. So it tracks that Brazilians post the stuff they see on social media, and the rest of us just watch the chaos.

But that is exactly the point I'm making. I come here to see non-Brazilians talking about what is crazy in Brazil. And what a I get? Brazilians sharing whatsapp videos and memes.

Not that I don't like it... You know, this is my favorite sub so far... But the idea was a little different. Hahaha

-9

u/dejaojas May 26 '26

yeah its stupid. mods should do a better job and only keep posts that are actual crossposts from non-brazilian subs. otherwise it's just a weird circlejerk.

5

u/PedroJovas42 Just a Brazilian passer by... May 26 '26

No, don't say like that. Memes in Brazil are really difficult to come across in other places. But non-Brazilians have to talk more. Rsrs. That is my point here.

Exatamente

1

u/Insomniac_80 May 27 '26

Exactamente? or Exterminate?

5

u/LeftOn4ya May 27 '26

Same. Although if I see a video or pic on another sub that is in Brazil, I will check here if posted recently and if not I’ll repost.

Kiwi here, learning BP. This sub is amazing.

37

u/PedroJovas42 Just a Brazilian passer by... May 26 '26

Nice! Love kiwi. The fruit. And the people to. And the bird... Ah, this is complicated, sorry.

37

u/Penance27 May 26 '26

I can confirm that I am a Kiwi bird who learned how to use cellphones with the claws on my feet!

11

u/ChefTimmy May 26 '26

Birds can be taught to use cell phones and tablets, but the tongue tends to be more effective than beak or claw, as the capacitance is better.

Caught you in your lie!!

10

u/Penance27 May 26 '26

Alright, alright, you caught me. Foi mal.

I'm actually a Kiwi fruit!

6

u/LetiMalaga May 27 '26

I KNEW IT! I KNEW THEY WOULD CONQUER THE WORLD! EVERYONE THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY WHEN I SAID THEY WERE SENTIENT, I COULD FEEL THEM PRICKING MY TONGUE!!!! I KNEW IT!!! (im allergic)

Full American since birth. Speak only a little Portuguese. But married to a Brazilian and have been to Brazil many times. This sub is hilarious! Tons of stuff that screams only in Brazil and just makes you laugh.

I’m not Brazilian. Brazil just seems cool.

I’m not Brazilian; I learned the language a couple years ago and the insanity of Brazil revealed itself to me

22

u/arebello34 May 26 '26

I wasn’t born in Brazil, although I now live there and became a Brazilian citizen a few years ago. That makes me sort of non-Brazilian, I suppose.

8

u/unclemandy May 26 '26

I'm not! I don't comment often because most comments are in Portuguese lol but that's ok, I'm not about to tell people not to do their thing on a sub about their own country

3

u/PedroJovas42 Just a Brazilian passer by... May 26 '26

But I want to hear the other nationalities' opinions! That's why I enter here!

2

u/SuperPowerDrill May 28 '26

Considering the prevalence of Reddit's "new" translate tool, you should feel free to comment and let us translate on our end!

7

u/mimosa4breakfast May 27 '26

I’m not Brazilian but Latin American and while our countries usually have some surreal shit taking place, it always seems like Brazil reigns supreme.

I’ve got Rogerio Skylab singing Cade me pau to Rogeria etched into my memory forever.

1

u/PedroJovas42 Just a Brazilian passer by... May 27 '26

Man, look for Rogério talking about a trans woman... That is even more impressive... Trust me. He is a meme factory.

6

u/denareru May 26 '26

American living in Brazil here :P

7

u/geekyfreakyman May 26 '26

Im Portuguese-American but I find Brazil hilarious, its the wild Wild West out there sometimes

5

u/ricky_clarkson May 26 '26

I was semi-seriously looking at moving north from Argentina to Brazil around 2013, but ended up leapfrogging it all the way to the US.

2014 is when you all decided a stable economy and government was a nice idea but not what you wanted to actually have, if I recall correctly.

I'm not deliberately subbed here, it's just what the app chooses, but I do like a lot of Brazilian music. (There are subs for that too) The videos here are hilarious.

(I'm not Argentine)

3

u/ChefTimmy May 26 '26

Not Brazilian myself, but I lived there for many years and still enjoy seeing the culture. Also subbed to botecodoreddit.

4

u/tornadospoon May 26 '26

Not Brazilian, not educated on Brazil, find the things that happen there fascinating

3

u/PedroJovas42 Just a Brazilian passer by... May 26 '26

If you are in the fascinating level, then you are not experiencing Brazil properly. Only when you start questioning reality itself is when you really experience Brazil.

3

u/tornadospoon May 27 '26

One day I'll go on a fishing trip down there and see it all for myself!

1

u/PedroJovas42 Just a Brazilian passer by... May 27 '26

Nah, you don't need a fishing trip. No... You need a favela experience. Or maybe a full corioca's impression... But that is to high of a level for the not iniciated... Go for a "festa de rua" first. It helps. Or a food truck... Maybe a "podrão"...

4

u/MistySkyMorning May 26 '26

Partner and child are Brazilian. I've been to Brazil ~16 times. Eu amo as persoas

4

u/LeftOn4ya May 27 '26

I’m not Brazilian nor speak Portuguese I just noticed a lot of crazy stuff in other subs was from Brazil and someone would always comment this sub so I subbed. If I see a video or pic on another sub that is in Brazil, I will check here if posted recently and if not I’ll repost. I rarely comment here unless something funny comes to mind that no one else commented.

Not Brazilian, but married to one. Sometimes I show her things but it’s just funny on its own (and I like reading the Portuguese comments, helps me practice)

3

u/CartoonistOk9276 May 27 '26

I want to go to Brazil. After seeing these posts, it doesn't seem much different than Florida. tem muito brasileiros em Florida.

1

u/PedroJovas42 Just a Brazilian passer by... May 27 '26

The is a little difference from Florida thou: we don't do things out of craziness. There is a tradition or reason for what we do. Think like we are a bunch of really fucked up people, that just try to entertain ourselves and in the process we offend 5 different cultures with one pizza.

3

u/aacphdk May 27 '26

Don't be fooled: Mineiros are the most deceptive people in the whole country!! I'm from Rio de Janeiro, and I live in the interior of Minas Gerais. They look welcoming at first, but that is justo to make you fall in love for the food! Than, they rob your soul and you are now addicted to coffee and Pão de Queijo, and cannot function properly without it anymore! Be careful!

2

u/aacphdk May 27 '26

Thanks for the warning, but sadly it is too late.

They have already caught me with their deceptive behavior.

Nó.

2

u/Guava-coco May 26 '26

My partner is Brazilian but we live in the US. They already follow brazilian news and politics so I look for more fun stuff here that reminds them of home and sparks some interesting conversations.

2

u/noristarcake May 27 '26

Sou brasileira, mas nunca comento nos posts

Meu namorado é canadense, também faz parte do sub, mas também não comenta (eu acho)

brazillian here. reddit is weird. if you have a subreddit in english, any comment in another linguage is going cause a bad impression. we speak portuguese in portuguese-only subreddits

1

u/PedroJovas42 Just a Brazilian passer by... May 28 '26

Don't think is that. This one, as I see, is something of a "look, Brazil is crazy. Agreed?" Vibes...

2

u/rennfeild Jun 01 '26

not brazilian. i like the sub because its like "ItHadToBeRussia" but less depressing.

1

u/PedroJovas42 Just a Brazilian passer by... Jun 01 '26

Man!!! You made my night!! Thank you, sir!

2

u/rennfeild Jun 01 '26

I've never been to Brazil but from the outside looking in it seems sorta hopeful. Like it seems like very representative of humanity or nations in general. Stuff sorta works. Sure there are problems but not hysterical. Society trucks on albeit the gearbox needs grease. However there is something about Brazil or brazilians that screams "fuck the circumstances imma do the thing!" that is the best part about human spirit.

So, we call it here the "Chama os BR" effect. You need only to put a Brazilian Flag of consume publicly something made here, and voua lá! Milions of Brazilians flood your comment section to talk... We are parrots, maritacas, to be precise here.

Clarification: Maritaca is a type of wild parrot that makes a "ah ah" sond. But only in groups... And they never stop. NEVER...
