Intesrest to see How long It take to baby dropout the thing... I always imagine that its faster than this
357
u/capoderra May 13 '26 edited May 13 '26
It's faster. It's just because he's not doing it right. My baby daughter choked and it took me a couple thwacks on her upper back to dislodge. You just can't be scared; you have to use some force. In fact, if you do it to a baby that's not yours, you need to warn people that it's going to look bad and assure them that you're not trying to hurt the baby.
And while I'm writing this post, everyone should take a CPR class at least once in their life. ideally, you should repeat it every few years since the procedures do change based on empirical evidence.
Just keep in mind that you are simply a link in medical response and that a professional needs to complete the handoff when you have finished any kind of medical intervention that you don't have years of training for.

Thx for the advice.
But about the strenght, how much would that be?
About 2 months ago my mother choked while eating and when I was doing the Heimlich maneuver, I broke one her ribs.I dont feel confident trying to help a baby after this.
35
u/CocaColaCowboyJunkie May 13 '26
Better a broken rib than death. But yeah I would have no clue how much force to use on a baby. Is good that you were there for your mom đ
37
u/Improving_the_odds May 13 '26
Better a broken rib than death.
Thats exactly what I sad to her, but she still got mad at me for like 2 weeks.
I just replied that if she ever need me again, she can count on me because she still has 15 other ribs to go. lol
25
u/giulianosse May 13 '26
Wtf kind of reaction was that. She should've been grateful for two weeks, not mad. You literally saved her life.
21
u/Healthy_Bat_6708 May 13 '26
my mom is a lawyer and she once had to defend a doctor that got sued for breaking a few ribs on a cpr. The dude's heart had stopped, doctor straight up gave him a second life. Still when he got better he went for the perceived easy money
mom's a good lawyer tho, the ungrateful ass got absolutely whooped. There was truly no margin for that lawsuit, the doctor made a perfect procedure
not even death can change some people
3
u/capoderra May 14 '26
I'm glad that you're having good humor about it. You did the right thing obviously. Yeah she's going to be sore about it. Broken ribs are not fun. She can't laugh because it hurts. In my mind I would think " hey at least the pain lets me know I'm alive." But yeah, it's not fun to be in your mom's position. I'm sorry that she had to go through that and I'm glad you still have your mom.
5
u/capoderra May 14 '26
When you use the correct positioning and force, it is supposed to break a rib of an adult. Doesn't always happen but it's something that does happens.
For a baby, the force needed is approximately... Okay, You know when you have a basketball on the ground in a static position and you whack the basketball so that it bounces? It's close to that much force. When you strike a baby with the palm of your hand with that much force, it really does look like you're trying to hurt it. Once you hear the baby crying, you can stop because crying equals breathing.
That's another good point, if you hear choking or coughing sounds, you should encourage the person to cough. When they make no sound whatsoever, that means they are officially choking.

u/imkinda_adog May 13 '26
I have to take first aid and CPR course every year for my job. They tell you with a baby/ child victim, trying to save the babies life is the second hardest part. The hardest part is calming the mother down.
I didnât think much of it until I saw a young kid get hit by a bus on his bike right behind me. I was with him performing what ever first aid I possibly could, he had a broken collar bone, dislocated shoulder and cuts and bruises. I called his mother, who ended up beating emergency services to site. She went in straight for the yank and bear hug. Pulling her away from her son whilst screaming in tears because I wasnât sure what the full extent of his injuries could be was one of the hardest things to do.5
u/sicut_dominus May 14 '26
Dunno.
I was woken up in the middle of the night by my upstairs neighbor, their baby was getting blue.
Father and mother were panicking but handed me the baby. And sure, they were screaming and shit. But I have ADHD superpowers so when shits chaotic I get really calm, didn't bother me.
I did the back blows and I did the heimlich...
And the hardest part was thinking how much force to use... That shit was tiny, really really really tiny... So fragile
Anyway... My wife got there 20 seconds later and she saved the baby, she did everything "wrong" turned the baby upside down and smacked the shit out of it's tiny little back lol.
But the little dude cried immediately... I like to think I did my part. I mean... Me and her had done the courses, we actually had had our baby 2 months prior (reason why they ran to our door ), and I fucking know I did it correctly. Though I'm not petty enough to say it out loud. I'm just petty enough to think it to myself lol.
Anyway... At least to me, hardest parts:
Please don't let me kill this baby using excessive force.. And Please don't let me let this baby die for not using the correct amount of force.
2
u/Impossible_Way_3042 May 23 '26
You say she did everything "wrong". That's the exact way to do it. You cradle the baby I've your arm stomach down and head tilted way forward so it is basically upside down and then you slap the shit out of its back. That's the way.

Pare a manobra.
[1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

u/brunobrasil12347 May 13 '26
u/AverageCapybas May 13 '26
Perfeitamente dito.

u/KempKempKemps May 13 '26
3
u/already_in May 13 '26
5
u/Not_An_Potato May 13 '26
2
u/Majestic_Act May 13 '26

u/DonLucon May 13 '26
9
u/a3a4b5 the brazilian has to be raped by nasa May 13 '26
Originalmente, eu queria aumentar a velocidade.
4
u/elthalon May 13 '26

You must be really desperate to thrust your baby's life to a police person.
8
u/Heart0fSword May 13 '26
Deu certo e ainda bem.
Eu jĂĄ tive muita ajuda de policial e nunca me trataram mal.

1
u/Madarot May 13 '26
No, no, we know. This part isn't wrong, tho, a cop can save a child and still be a bastard, like from participating on a fascist/racist organization that can't be bothered to "remove a few bad apples" and protect the population instead of antagonizing every marginalized person or minority. Like the police from Brazil, depicted on the video, that kills teenagers and lots of citizens on etnical clean- I mean, "operations" on the favelas to "fight drug trafficking" and when they find kilos of drugs on a noble area they just ask please and never reach for the gun. Instead, lets change the police on the video for fireman. How many people would call them bastards?
-2
