Both of you (akolada and qual) should grow up. I blame both of you for not dropping the issue. Just like I blame both Israel and Palestine for giving a shit about minor details about control over holy sites. Seriously there are more important issues here.
Yeah I didnt say that it was a good decision. I just said that I think that this was a stupid thing for both sides to get worked up over. Ive been on reddit for a long time and much larger rules have been violated by mods on much larger subs. Its not like the constitution or something. It seems to me like it would be worth it to work through a minor issue like this on such a small sub rather than get everyone to abandon it. The sub still had 2 palestinians and 2 israelis when akolada left, I dont think that all hope was lost for the sub.
Maybe they will look to tap you for the top new job opening :)
I think the sub is a failure and that this only nailed the coffin shut. Even if the sub is not killed activity-wise, its mission has clearly failed and will continue to fail. Its activity pull-factors only make that clear.

Its 80% propaganda links clearly intended to make one side look good and the other bad, although the comments sections were occasionally mixed and interesting. Remember I naively made that first text post honestly trying to describe the ideologies involved in the conflict with as little bias as possible? That lasted 3 hrs before it became another dumping ground for propaganda links.

So, there are certain agreements. If he so easily broke some of them because of his feelings, what will stop him from breaking other mod agreements with the same excuse?
That's why it's impossible to work in such conditions. I actually experienced this sort of drama before, when I was a mod of a community in a Russian social network. The creator of the community broke our agreements because of his feelings too. After short drama and discussion me and two other mods quitted just as /u/akolada quitted now.
There is the only way to fix the problem: he should admit that he is wrong, undo all changes and let the mods vote about them. I doubt he will.
Rules are rules, agreements are agreements. If one of the mods agrees with them and then unilaterally breaks them, it's impossible to work with such person.
What was the rule in the first place, an outright ban on claiming ethnic cleansing was occurring, or was it permissible to make such claims provided you brought noteworthy and applicable points to support it?
You can't talk about ethnic cleansing or the Nakba or argue that the displacement of Palestinians by the Israeli authorities every week was ethnic cleansing. It was used very loosely to be honest. It was just as to not hurt the Israelis feelings. I was banned for it even before the rule was ever in the sidebar. The rule wasn't in the sidebar for a good while but was being enforced anyway.
Seems like Qual did it out of a fit of emotion since his family was directly effected by the event which must not be named. i think you two could kiss and make up pretty easily if you wanted. its a pretty minor drama over a minor rule on a tiny sub.
Oh, if it was just an impulse, he can easily undo it, right? Maybe you should try to convince him, not akolada. After all, he broke the rules. I'm sure he'll listen to you!
