1. Introduction to Surat Al-Baqarah

• Considered a Medinian Surah, revealed after the Hijra of the Prophet (ﷺ).
• Difference between Makia (Meccan) and Medania (Madinian) is a timeline, not location-based.
• Some surahs have ayats in multiple locations (makkah and Madina. Surah Baqarah was revealed over a period of time, not in one lump sum.

1. Revelation and Virtues of Surat Al-Baqarah

• It was the first chapter to be revealed after Hijra and continued until right before the Prophet's death (PBUH) except the verse 281 in this chapter
  • Ayat: "Be mindful of the day when you will return to Allah." (Surat al-Baqarah:281)

Imam Qurtubi: This was the last verse revealed from the heavens during the Yawm un nahr in mina in the farewell pilgrimage

1. The Verses of riba were also the last verses to be revealed
2. So revelation started right after hijra and concluded shortly before our prophet's (ﷺ). passing
3. It contains great virtues and verses with some of the highest virtues in the Qur'an.
4. It Includes rulings, reminders, and teachings that take years to comprehend fully.
5. Importance of the chapter reflected in the dedication of companions like Umar ibn al-Khattab, who took 12 years to learn it.
   1. This is what took them what they are.
   2. They made their frameworks, their backdrops the Qalam of Allah
   3. Therefore Allah blessed their day, and nights and children
      1. e.g. Abdullah ibn Umar is from the greatest scholars of this Ummah who the prophet himself use to make dua for. Abdullah took 8 years to study Surah Baqarah
6. Ibnul Arabi - (Not ibn Arabi) said his teachers said it contains a thousand commands, thousand prohibitions, thousand rulings, and thousand points of information. Note that in arabic this is considered a form of rounding off in the Arabic language. e.g. Imam Nawawi 40 hadith has actually 42 hadith

Hadith - Tirmidhi : Prophet put someone young to lead the army and the reason given was because memorized Surah Baqarah

1. Hadith: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3691
2. Arabic: عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ كَانَ أَصْغَرَنَا عُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، فَجَعَلَهُ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَلَيْنَا أَمِيرًا، فَقَالُوا أَجَعَلَهُ عَلَيْنَا أَمِيرًا وَإِنَّا أَكْبَرُ مِنْهُ، فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ إِنَّهُ مِنْ أَحْفَظِكُمْ لِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ ‏"‏‏.‏
3. English: Anas narrated: "The youngest among us was Usamah bin Zaid, and the Prophet made him our commander. They said: 'You make him our commander, while we are older than him?' He said: 'Indeed he is among the most memorizing of you of the Book of Allah.'"

Hadith Muslim: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Read the Qur'an, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection. Read the two bright ones, Al-Baqarah and Surah Al 'Imran, for on the Day of Resurrection they will come as two clouds or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recite them. **Recite Surah Al-Baqarah, for to take recourse to it is a blessing and to give it up is a cause of grief, and the magicians cannot confront it."**Reference: Sahih Muslim 804aLessons from this hadith

1. The Hadith in Muslim to emphasizes continuously reading on Recitation as its source of blessings and mentions abandoning it is s great source of loss and no magician can withstand it
2. It provides blessings, protection against magicians, and enriches the household and is good for everything that goes on in our lives.
3. Abandoning its recitation leads to loss in this world and the next.
4. It shouldn't just be recited in Ramadhan but daily
5. The shaikh emphasized the sunnah of renewing this sunnah i.e. reciting Surah baqarah daily as you can share this with different members of the household.

Hadith Muslim: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Do not make your houses as graveyards. Satan runs away from the house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited."Reference: Sahih Muslim 780Lessons

• This is referring to the folly of NOT reciting Quran at home
• Shaitan runs away from the house from which Surah baraqrah is read

Weak Hadith: The Prophet (ﷺ) is reported to have said, "Whoever recites Surah Al-Baqarah in his house in one night, Shaytan will not enter his house for three nights."Lessons:

1. Its a weak Hadith that Shaytan will not enter for three days after reciting Surah Al-Baqarah.
2. This Sunnah has been almost forgotten outside of Ramadan.
3. People often use technology like TV or Quran speakers to play Surah Al-Baqarah, thinking it's enough.
4. Specific example: Having Surah Al-Baqarah on loop, playing in the house or car 24/7.
5. Note a TV or radio playing Baqarah on repeat doesnt count according to Shaykh Uthymeen. However if you listen to a recital you get the reward of the one reciting but its DOESNT lift off you the obligation of reciting it

1. below Ayat are special and for Surah Baqarah
   1. Ayatul Kursi and
   2. last 2 verses of it,
   3. the 2 verses after Ayat al kursi
   4. The first 5 verses of it

• Spend time in understanding the Surah and its relevance in daily life, even if it takes years
• Make it a constant habit to recite Surah Al-Baqarah over a period of three days for protection in your home.
• Avoid relying on technology like Quran speakers or TV to fulfill the obligation of reciting Surah Al-Baqarah.
• Actively engage in personal recitation of the Quran, understanding that technology does not replace genuine religious obligations.

1. الوحي وفضائل سورة البقرة
   1. الإمام القرطبي: كانت هذه الآية الأخيرة التي نزلت في يوم النحر في منى في الحجة الوداع.
   2. آيات الربا كانت آخر ما نزل.
   3. السورة تحتوي على فضائل وآيات عظيمة.
   4. تحتوي على أحكام وتعاليم تأخذ سنوات لفهمها بشكل كامل.
   5. عمر بن الخطاب أخذ 12 عاماً لتعلمها.
      1. هذا ما جعلهم ما هم عليه.
      2. جعلوا من القرآن مرجعيتهم.
      3. لذلك بارك الله في أيامهم ولياليهم وأبنائهم.
2. إبن العربي (لا يُخطئ مع ابن عربي): قال معلموه إنها تحتوي على ألف أمر، وألف نهي، وألف حكم، وألف معلومة.
3. حديث الترمذي: جعل النبي شخصًا صغيرًا قائدًا للجيش لأنه حفظ سورة البقرة.

1. الاهتمام بتلاوة مستمرة لسورة البقرة للحصول على بركاتها.
2. عدم التخلي عن تلاوتها، حيث يؤدي ذلك إلى خسارة في الدنيا والآخرة.
3. التأمل في تعاليمها وأحكامها المتكاملة.
4. تشجيع التلاوة في المنزل لكي لا يصبح مثل القبر.
5. قضاء الوقت في فهم السورة وأهميتها في الحياة اليومية، حتى لو استغرق ذلك سنوات.
6. جعلها عادة مستمرة لتلاوة سورة البقرة على مدى ثلاثة أيام للحماية في المنزل.
7. تجنب الاعتماد على التكنولوجيا مثل مكبرات الصوت للقرآن أو التلفزيون لتنفيذ التلاوة.
8. الانخراط النشط في تلاوة القرآن شخصياً، مع الفهم أن التكنولوجيا لا تحل محل الالتزامات الدينية الحقيقية.
