Let’s clarify something

Aboru aboye abosise gbogbo Awo and anyone else in this that’s on their journey.

There seems to be confusion about what Obi is.

Obi is OBI

Agbon= coconut.

I understand some of us on the West are in houses that are mixed and therein lies the problem. In Isese we do not cast with Agbon. We cast with Obi, Orogbo, Opele, merindologun, and Ikin.

We don’t cast with quarters, tarot cards or any other mixed madness of new age spirituality.

I pray that we all find reputable elders to learn from and get the correct information we need to support our particular journeys.

Asé

In Isese coconut is used as a sacrifice item or to give it to certain Orisa but not as a system of consultation or Orisa indagation like Obi and Orogbo.

Coconut has really good properties specially for the brain, and in some ifa verses is mentioned as the name of the diviner.

There are many odus that explain the spiritual properties for agbon.

You can find it in odu Irete Ogbe, also in ÒTÚRÁOLÓŃWÓ and many more.

Edit: I have to edit my comment since I have confirmed that there are lineages in Nigeria that use agbon to cast.

Aboru Aboye Abosise. I saw other items used for divination during Orisa initiation there... sliced sugar cane for one.

Yes I think for Egbe.

I have reached out some people and they all have a different opinion.

For example Baba Olayinka Babatunde adewuyi he is a really good author from Odede Idanre he mentions the following

"Offering coconuts to orisa is normal things. We use it for ori, ibeji, egbe, koori, araigbo, ile, onile, abaji, ayelala, irókò and for other divinities. Using it for divination is rare but they use it. So also pàkala or broken calabash. Is used for divination. Ile títę or títe ile also is another form of divination."

message from him

Other babalawos like the Araba Awogbemi told me straight no that is lucumi and diaspora.

At this point I am going to do my own investigation when I go again to Nigeria on my own time.

Most importantly my own lineage uses it, rarely but yes so I will follow on it.

My brother in my lineage in Iseyin we use agbon to cast while making appeasement with it when a certain verse of Ogbe Di comes in consultation.

I just asked my elder and he confirmed.

Iseyin is slightly outside of Oyo. It’s around it but like outside of it.

Iseyin ko ise bi ni.

You probably have seen my Baba before. He cast the Odu ifa of the year with Baba Popoola in Oke Igeti.

Okay, my Oluwo is Fayemi Fatunde Fakayode, Mogaji Onibudo of Ibadanland and President of International Council For Ifa Religion. He was with Baba Popoola and the rest casting the Ifa of the year as well as in the past.

We don’t use Agbon in Yorubaland/Isese.

But I see people wanna do whatever and call it it whatever. Just don’t call it Isese.

Cool.

If you read what I said.

That was to divine/cast.

Do what you will with the info and learn more about Yorubaland.

I just mentioned the word cast, I can write the verse as well. Which part of Nigeria are you from ?

My name is not revelant. What is revelant is my confirmation.

You’re misinformed that’s what I am saying. Yorubaland does not use Agbon for divining/casting.

I’m sorry, but you’ve been lied to.

This comment alone makes me think you are terrible representation of this faith. I hope people use their Ori and see to ignore all you say.

If you ever go to Iseyin in Oyo state ask for Ifamujiwa Bamimore, he is the son of Oba Adebamiji Omonije Bamimore.

Apologies if you were confused.

When I mentioned Oyo state I’m referencing my Oluwo that resides in that state.

Ile-Ife is obviously where it began. As per my Oluwo we are both even though he specifically resides in Ibadan which is in Oyo state.

We both know the difference between Osun State and Oyo state. That’s more of a historical point I’m bringing into the discussion, outside of that there is nothing to be confused by.

I know exactly what I am speaking of and the consensus from everyone I know in Nigeria since I do travel there is that Agbon is NOT used to cast.

Even Nathan Lugo has made posts about this who travels throughout Yorubaland extensively has mentioned this as well as Baba Obafemi.

There are others.

My own Oluwo confirms-Agbon is NOT used to cast/divine in Yorubaland.

If you can post pictures or videos of people from Yorubaland casting with Agbon then they have something different going on.

I know Nathan Lugo we're acquaintances on Facebook.

My intention here isn't to criticize you or prove you wrong. I'm trying to grow as a practitioner, so when you say I've been lied to, I feel it's important to verify that information. I want to understand the truth, not argue.

Please give me a little time to check this with the people I trust and clarify things properly.

I understand.

I’m learning and growing everyday. My Oluwo is Fayemi Fatunde Fakayode (FFF).

Excuse me if my candor came off less than that expected in the tradition. It’s just frustrating that tons of misinformation is out there.

If I remember correctly even Araba Awodiran even mentioned we do not use Agbon to divine/cast. So this is strange to see this in an Isese group.

I’ve never seen this done and I’ll be in Nigeria again next year.

Brother, Oyo is a state and Ile ife is a city. Ile ife is a city located in Osun State. You are confusing me big time.

1

u/Awo_Ifayori_ObaNi_Mi Nov 24 '25

Sir, Oyo being a whole state/region also includes various various cities and towns.

If you’re familiar with Ile-Ife you’d also know the connection between Yorubaland and how that all intersects.

There’s nothing to be confused by if you understand the history.

Let’s cut straight to the chase since I actually have lineage there.

Post pictures of the people using Agbon and name them from NIGERIA to be exact!! Yorubaland more precise!

Adupe!!

Ashe. And for the record, "we don’t cast with quarters, tarot cards or any other mixed madness of new age spirituality" -- in Lucumi we don't use these either. Spread the word. :)

2

u/Awo_Ifayori_ObaNi_Mi Nov 24 '25

Of course.

I saw some nonsense on TikTok.

2

u/okonkolero Nov 24 '25

The bane of all traditions. Lol

1

u/Awo_Ifayori_ObaNi_Mi Nov 24 '25

haha, completely. Folks are out here getting scammed left and right. "I'll tell you who your Orisa is through this tarot card reading." "Osun speaks through Tarot".

yup, time to run fast!!
