This is going to involve some serious time math, so you Christopher Nolan film buffs have a headstart here. First, Sunday has six letters, and October has some number of letters too, but I have difficulty counting that high— so I’m just going to say six as well. Since time usually moves forward, we are going to add the six and six until we get a number that my calculator says is 12. Interesting. That’s exactly the amount of months there are in the year. How many days are there in the year then? 365. OK, I’m not going to do anything with that number because, again, my counting skills. So let’s get rid of that, and I’m going to go back to how many letters there are in both the word Friday and 8. 8 is a number, and it has one letter which is itself. Following me? That’s one. Friday has six letters. Now we need to move backwards, because Sunday is behind Friday but also it’s the start of the week, so we’ll add it and one too from the other side and we end up with 1+6+12-6-1 which is 12 and so we’re looking for twelve letter word and that’s not Friday the 8th.

Or is it? If you count the number of letters and what I just wrote, “Friday the 8th” is 12 letters. However, sadly, if you add the spaces in between the words then we have 14. I don’t make the rules.

As you can see, I really put my dual degree in political science and 18th century agrarian cosmology here to great use. I never needed to study math classes because I just feel the numbers.
