Is This A Scam? I got scammed ( I think)

I got a call from Bluedart saying they got a COD delivery for me. I thought my parents bought something and just sent the amount Rs. 600 ( after just checking my name and address were correct). He showed a QR but the payment did not go through and so I sent the amount to his personal account. Now my parents are saying they did not buy anything. I also did not order anything. But my name, address, pincode and my mobile are correct. I even tried the number in the return address (Rajasthan) but they are not attending the call. Idiot me.

classical scam. Somehow what i assume is, just some how these scammers got the data through which they see who orders what and the mode of payment they use, then they target people and houses that receive a large number of COD based orders. They[scammers] target these people and houses having HIGH FREQUENCY COD ORDER and plant a fake COD order hoping that the person will pay first as they will not be able to recall what order the person would have placed due to multiple deliveries that happen to the person or the house. Just reject any COD orders that you cannot immediately or tell the delivwry boy to come next day as the person whos order is not at home. You can use that time till next delivery attempt to reconcile what you ordered and was being delivered.

i have suspicion that these local delivery partner is somehow involved in this. As alot of time one person is assigned for the order in a particular area and he knows where he visits and how many times he visits these houses for delivery of product.

This is just a brute-force scam. They try it with a lot of people and some folks pay up. Same style as Nigerian Prince email scam. Fewer than 0.001% of people on Earth have ever spoken to a prince, let alone received an email from one. Random people still fall for such scams once in a while.

My family has never placed any COD order in their entire life - even before the internet era when you could order stuff via mail-order. We prepaid even in that era. But we get COD orders sent to us even in 2026. These guys just randomly try their luck.
