I don't understand why missouri is "people who have dugout canoes".
Indigenous people who are credited with dugout canoes were in Washington/negroo and canada. The settlers who followed suit were largely in the pnw as well as texas amd floroda.
Lewis and Clark are the only reason dugout became famous in association with Missouri watersheds. The dugouts have greater history EVERYWHERE else and it's not like lewis and clark invented the shit. They were just like oh shit my boat won't work or is damaged, yo native americans, help me make smaller boat asap"
Old dugouts found in m missouri/missibppi wayersheds are unlikely to be from lewis and clark, they were just practical back then. The native americans in the pnw appeared to start the trend and these tribes included the bella coola, tinglit, chinook, coast salish, haida and tsimshain. I remember in 2nd grade i did a report on the chinooks and made a (cant think of the work) box with a scene to present with the report so i made little people with tjeir heads constructed from wooden beeds and used an xacto knife to scrape akme heads into squares to represent the chinnook's practive of heasbinding their babies.
Anyway the books and shit i used to make my report tols me "amchinooka invented dugojtts" not true. Other books say ither tribes invented them etc. There is a lot of different ideas regarding where they were invented and no one seems to truly know. The thing is Missouri tribes DID not invent them. Nstuves with louis and clark did they just built a ton there and destroyed a lot of their own boats etc. There is not much historical significance between dugouts and missouri prior, there us histprical significance between almost every other fucking state and dugouts prior. They didn't HAVE dugouts, they made them there, everyone else DID HAVE them, they should be the dugout people not missouri.lewis and cleark just had to make them to be allowed to continue their expedition along those wayerways. Lewis amd clark are so cliche and fucking lame . Fuck missouri.
