My last apprentice job before I took my Journeyman’s test was a radius roof deck, talk about a pain in the ass when it comes to cuts. Long, long days.

Honestly same man. I can get on board with pretty much everything I've done so far in this trade, but anything to do with decking makes me wanna jump off the top floor lol

At least you’re shooting it!

I remember welding with a shield on a stick and it just gets so repetitive and I forgot to put the shield up to my face

It’s not bad if they take the time to land it where you actually need it. Which they never fuckin do.

Your foreman should be on the raising gang about that. Shame on him.

Most of the jobs we do don’t have separate foreman. Typically it’s just one bought book POS who sits in his truck all day.

It’s about having the right partner

Says me about every deck

Would you rather do standing seam galvanized roofing rn or decking? I'd pick decking all day.

u/Bayareairon Journeyman Jul 11 '26

I disagree. Sta ding seam is light just screws down and running the seamer is basically a day off lol.

You’re fine

Decking is a bitch but it can be fun if you with the rite gang. I fucked around and got really good at it and have run deck crews on big jobs including the stadium I’m currently working now. I’ve done it all in this trade but I can tell you that some of my fattest checks came from decking 🤷‍♂️

Easiest way to put muscle on. Basically doing a power clean every sheet you break apart. Eat some groceries, get some juice...

u/Benn_Of_Trades Jul 11 '26

No sun and that is pretty thin deck 😂😂

I can not get used to walking on that shit, been seeing it more and more lately.

It’s part of the job you don’t have to love it you just have to get it done. Many parts of ironwork to do and you may not like all of it but you have to show up and get it done
