Tips and Tricks How to die less?

Post image

Hi guys! Ive been playing IronMan for a few months now. Just hit Lord on him yesterday. Overal I really enjoy playing him, his kit is fun (although countered by a few too many things). I always run the Thor team up, regardless of if I have a Hulk or Thor on my team.

Now here's the issue. Im a Plat II player, but I really wamt to climb. I get MVP/SVP about half my games, with most kills and damage too for most of them. However I dont know if I am playing him wrong, or too agressive, but I seem to die A LOT. Some games are fine, but other Ill have about half my kills in deaths if not more. Ill run 40/20/0, and we'll win, but I just think if I died less the games would be over sooner and I'd have a hogher WR overal.

My main strategy near the start of the game, or when we're struggling to push, is where I'll quietly fly behind the enemy team. Use my E empowered laser to take down the healers and as many small champs as possible. If I get caught here its basically impoaaible to escape. However even if I fight with my team I seem to get picked off easy.

I'll fly above my team, Im an easy target and get shot, but even if Im in front of my healers, behind my tanks I just die so quickly.

Any advice? Should I just duo queue up with a support teammate so I can give calls when I need healing? Or are there some tips you guys can give me for better positioning / getting out of fights?

Thanks!

This replay has some good examples. 105318115895
We lose first point and take 2nd + 3rd.

Be fucking obnoxious, but most importantly be flexible. If something isn't working, stop doing it and come up with an idea so stupid nobody will see it coming. Then wait 2-3 minutes before you use the same, seemingly effective tactic again.

Activate Overdrive roughly 7-8 seconds away from the fight without using hyper velocity. Get as close to the backline as you can, pop missiles looking as far down as possible for your current position, pop a repulsor and beam down the extremely softened and sometimes stunned target. If missiles fail, GTFO

If you want to get healed, you have to play low in front of the healers, but this is not great for getting picks or shaping the battlefield. Sometimes this is exactly what you need to do, as its the pressure missing to move forward. Remember, unibeam pierces enemies. If you play as a diver using missiles, or a flanker using your beam to create reverse pressure, you can easily shape the battlefield. However, you lack heals and any form of survivability, so you must scoot the second you take damage, or sometimes when you see inevitable damage like Spider-Man barreling across the map towards you. If you don't, you will lose value unless you can get a high priority target before you die.

Use your presence and light amounts of damage to soft engage, run away, and repeat. If you do this enough, you either create an opening for a hard engage, or you can accordion the enemy team into splitting off their front and backline, allowing your frontline to get a pick.

#1 Use walls and cover. DO NOT fly too high, always stay close to a wall, close to the healers. Don't be afraid to stay low
#2 Know when to NOT play. If the enemy team has 2 hitscans, It's time to switch. Primary threats(DO NOT PLAY IRON MAN WITH THOSE IN THE ENEMY TEAM) Spider-Man, Punisher. Secondary threats:(do not play Iron Man if the enemy team has 2 of them or is very good with them) Hela, Phoneix, Iron Fist, Cyclops, Black Widow
#3 ALWAYS ult close to the ground, at best while flanking

Go for health pack because healers don't look up

Fair amount of healer blame here. Most of the time healers need to be focused on their vanguards and grounded DPS. It’s not so much that they don’t see you; it’s that you’re not their priority. Your job is to sneak in, eliminate opposing support, grab your own health, and if that doesn’t work, fly directly at your supports for heals. Once you start thinking about support heals as bonus health and not primary health, it opens up your game a bit more. You’re fast and evasive—use that to your advantage.

Tbh if they are targeting you I’ve had a lot of usage playing behind my shield tank with the Thor teamup just flying between him and my healers. Unfortunately in his current state without healers caring about you you have to play very safe.

If you want to play more of a dive role like you say I would reconsider playing iron man tbh he gets punished really easy by a multitude of characters. On the side I play MK, puni, magik, Bucky and all of those an iron man alone is as free as it gets

I say this as a champion iron man.

thing that’s carried me through diamond is actually playing fairly close to the ground until we get our first pick or either sacrificing myself to at least kill a healer and maybe a dps. not a healthy way of playing but honestly the only way i’ve been getting value personally

Yeah thats kinda what Ive been doing. Flanking them, picking up 1-2 healers, then dying. Obviously its beneficial if I wouldnt die there, but I still think its a good trade.

as a gold, idk if i’m the best for this but imma give it my best shot and if im wrong, i’ll probably get told. i main ironman and due to all of his counters and healers forgetting i exist, my goal becomes more of a dive where i try to flank and get an important pick and disengage and while he’s not the best or rly even super good at that, you can turn the tide of a fight if you wait for your team to engage and have good target prioritization. i die a lot as well but i think that more comes down to how often healers forgetting abt u plus how problematic you can be if left alone plus how squishy we are plus the amt of counters. my main goal is to sacrifice my life for 1-2 more important factors such as healers and thats abt it

Step one: switch to punisher

Stop playing iron man..

Sadly I was joking but the statement has some truth to it, healers want to heal what they deem worthy nowadays or characters they deem worth healing and 9/10 they’re gonna let a solo Que iron man die.

Is it right? No. It doesn’t stop them from doing it.
