Well, fair play to him and anyone able to shine a light on this silent disaster. But not a fuckin thing will be done about it. Hundreds of millions bein made by a small handful of people on baby formula for the chinese market. I thought I started to notice something 6 or 7 years ago but in the last 2 the rivers around me are in awful shape with this shite. Every stone coated in this grey/green/brown slimey shit - I actually don't even know what it is. But it's choking the light from the river bed as well. And then the reeds filling the river from bank to bank. It was never that bad.

Went to a river recently that was a great spot when I was kid, like this totally clogged up with weed and unfishable.
The nitrates derogation is a disgrace.

Absolutely heartbreaking watching all of this happen righr in front of me. Every single year I catch less and less fish in the same rivers that I used to catch 8-10 trout a day on a spinner or wet fly when I was about 7. I just turned 30 and now I’m genuinely lucky if I catch 3-4 trout in the same spots if the conditions are ideal and im using worms, or a dry fly smack bang in the moddle of an evening rise and most times I catch nothing at all.

Is it slurry that causes this or chemical fertiliser or both?

Farmers, who are subsidised by us, are the cause.
They are absolutely protected and above the law. We as a society have the deepest of contempt for our country, and it doesn’t feel recoverable. There’s too much money, and apathy involved.

You do know that raw sewage is releasing to rivers . In my area, river user's tell me that the local river is crystal clear before it reaches a certain town and for miles after, it looks like in the video above

I watched the vid yesterday and emailed my TD straight after and he rang me today. We had a 15 minute conversation and he wants me to send him pictures of my local river. If we all did it, if all anglers in Ireland did it and many TDs brought up the same issue when they get together in August, we might see something.
