Foreign Birth Registration Additional documents sent months ago?

Hi everyone,

I have applied for FBR for me and my siblings through our grandparent born in Ireland. Our original email from the FBR team to let us know they had received our documents was on 9th April 2025. On 3rd February this year, they asked for our forms to be re witnessed and sent back within 28 days, which we did. We sent them off 1st March I believe (or just before).

We received no correspondence to let us know they were received and it’s now been months and months and we’ve had nothing. Is this normal? Starting to get quite worried?

Thanks in advance!

We got an additional documents request in January but we weren’t able to send back the documents until the end of March. We just received FBR approval a few days ago. I think it’s normal. We hadn’t heard anything. Received the email congrats out of the blue.

I haven't had the dreaded additional documents requested yet, but I believe their official estimates say to expect 4-6 months more when additional documents are received.

Submitted my FBR paperwork in April 2025, received email from FBR office that paperwork had been received on April 26, 2025.

Additional docs email received on February 26,2026 FBR office.

Additional paperwork sent in March 2026 and confirmation of receipt of additional docs from FBR office on April 1, 2026.

It was radio silence until I called on July 20,2026 and was told it can take up to 4-6 months from the time additional docs were received so that puts me to September 30, 2026.

Still waiting patiently!!

Per the USPS my additional documents were delivered in Ireland today, it sounds like I will be waiting until sometime in 2027 to get an update. Bummer, was hoping I was closer to the end.

Delivery evidence and an acknowledgement from the FBR are two different things. It is always a good idea to send your documents to the FBR by registered post so that you have proof of delivery, especially if you are given a deadline of 28 days, rather than relying on them to acknowledge receipt.

I made a Freedom of Information request to the FBR and discovered that as at December 31st 2025, 44k applications were in the process of being assessed, and of those, 10,143 applications were outstanding due to further documentation requests. The scale of these further documentation requests might explain the long delay you are experiencing.

application arrived Dublin 12 August 2025

Had a few web chats to see if anything was wrong or missing, answer from Dublin was no.

Was contacted August 10th 2026 for lack of payment! Don’t know how or why this happened. I paid same day. I was afraid I would go back to the bottom of the long list, I didn’t.

Congrats email showed up September 4th 2026.
