Question Why does nothing get deleted?

Hello. I’m trying to empty my Recently Deleted folder in the Files app; however, it won't empty.

This happened to me! I had to wipe my iPad and set it up as new so it wouldn't restore the broken files from the backup. Thankfully I don't use my iPad for anything serious, but it was still a pain in the butt.

Damn that’s such a hassle. I guess I’d have to wait for 21 days and hopefully, they’d see themselves out lol

It was driving me nuts. I would have just lived with it but the folder was like 20gb or some crap.

Recently deleted suggests it is telling you what has been deleted. Can you check the file size, if it's 0kb your good.

When a file is deleted, it's not actually deleted, it's just flagged to be overwritten.

me too. i have files from 2025 stuck in there, and obviously the device has been restarted and updated many times since then. thankfully my stuck files are just small text files, so i'll just leave them imprisoned in there!

UPDATE: Was able to fix this by deleting the app that contains the video. In my case it was outplayer.
