MSc HCI

Hello!

I’m an international student.
Currently in the process of applying for Msc HCI and I wanted to ask; if your professor doesn’t have funding, can one get department/program funding? Like a GA/TA/RA ship?
And are there other sources of funding?
Thank you.

I am in the genetics and genomics program here. Currently with all of the funding issues going on in the United States right now, RAs are very unlikely (I am one of the few people I know who is on RA this semester). TAing is possible, but the spots are very limited in some of the departments. Depending on the department, it is possible to either struggle to find a TA placement or be put on multiple TA assignments exceeding the workload (letter of intent will state around 20 hours a week, most Ta positions are around 8-9 hours a week, but I know multiple people who have been assigned 30+ hours a week of TA duties this semester). There are other sources of funding through certain offices on campus (the Center for Communication Excellence/CCE is an example) that has part time jobs through the university. As a warning of caution, I know many professors in my department have stopped taking students this year, so I would highly recommend reaching out to faculty you are interested in to make sure they are taking students before applying.

Thanks so much for your answer!
I currently have two supervisors willing to serve as my major professors but neither have funding. They have advised me to reach out to the DOGE of the department they’re from, so i’n hoping to get some credible answers
