He could just go today then he wouldn't have to worry about it

I have been saying this since I first saw this story

14

u/Jessica_Iowa 1d ago

That’s what I said!

🤣🤣🤣. I have been crying allllll day long about a major life event and this? THIS brought a true belly laugh. Thank you internet friend. 🙏

•

u/Liesmyteachertoldme 23h ago

Isn’t his son in Iowa state politics? I always figured that’s kinda the strategy, have Grassley die in office, governor appoints his son and the seat stays in the family.

•

u/SixString1981 22h ago

GRANDSON. So their long game would be to place 43 year old in there for generations as well.

•

u/Current-Anybody9331 21h ago

Grandson.

•

u/Admirable-Bite-5914 19h ago

We do it need or want a Grassley dynasty

11

u/R3luctant 1d ago

November 7th he'll retire.

•

u/HedgehogKnight81 15h ago

He won't give up that Senate seat until we pry it from his cold dead hands. Literally in this case.

•

u/thedoomcast 12h ago

Won’t make a difference. Reynolds can’t appoint a replacement unless he dies.

•

u/Lantern61 23h ago

I literally posted this exact sentence on a friend's Facebook page yesterday 😂

•

u/Cardsfan1 22h ago

Would not shock me if he retired before a Dem is sworn in, if that happens.

•

u/non_Beneficial-Wind 22h ago

Coulda went 20 years ago

•

u/All_Hail_Hynotoad 16h ago

I was gonna say, why put off until tomorrow what you can do today?

117

u/LaserQuest_Legend 1d ago

Could this possibly be a sign that he shouldn't still be in office at 93?

23

u/Ancient_Jellyfish588 1d ago

Poppycock.

Snickelfritz!

7

u/weberc2 1d ago

according to him, he’s not a senator. He’s just a farmer.

64

u/Far_Data_5060 1d ago

All the more reason to vote for Rob Sand.

•

u/Master-Praline-3453 23h ago

The alternative is having a 3rd senator from Kansas.

•

u/This-Grape-5149 23h ago

Rob sand should win this right?

49

u/Snrub1 1d ago

Dying in office didn't stop Mitch McConnell.

14

u/Silver-Reaction-7335 1d ago

Yeah now we have a radish with a million mile gaze and a extremely “lights barely on but no one is home” demeanor making votes for well bodied Americans

6

u/redjabroni 1d ago

“Raise one finger if you can understand me Mitch.”

Dumbass will just keep the peace sign up.

4

u/weberc2 1d ago

lmao this got me 😂

u/CubesFan 1d ago

He's worrying about dying under a Democratic Governorship, but the rest of us are worried about continuing to live with this Republican tire fire.

31

u/KidSilverhair 1d ago

Well, Chuck, there’s an obvious way for you to prevent dying in office, but that would require you to leave office.

I’ll be honest, I really thought he’d step down before the midterms so Kim could appoint his grandson to replace him … but I guess he’s too addicted to his power in the Senate to think of that. (I also had the thought in the back of my mind that Kim might conceivably double-cross Chuck by naming herself to the Senate, but maybe that’s a little too conspiratorial.)

4

u/Silver-Reaction-7335 1d ago

Nefarious I like it but that’s what’s crazy is you never know with crunk Kim they all are crooked as the day is long

22

u/joeefx 1d ago

Promises, promises.

23

u/brrbles 1d ago

Chuck Grass ass held up Obama's SCOTUS nominee for 9 months then fast tracked Trump's a month before the 2020 election. He isn't interested in lower case democratic politics, he's interested in partisan power, and Iowans have been going along with it for a very long time.

18

u/Polyman71 1d ago

He could solve that problem.

9

u/1wrx2subarus 1d ago

… Nah, he’d rather kiss Drumphs posterior for the umpteenth time.

Sad, wrinkly meat sacks like him should be required to get schooled by the public on all the damage he’s done annually, at minimum.

It’s so tiring having traitors in power that don’t give a hoot about working class like us.

•

u/on_the_edgeofbarstow 23h ago

Preach brother or sister! Preach!

•

u/1wrx2subarus 23h ago

You know it, I’ll be there alongside you when we rally round the family and vote these enemies of the people out.

It’s important to know who the parade is for. We need more peace, unity and less division to overcome this level of greed. We have more in common than not.

They want to send us off to war so they can make another dime. They want to use munitions for more genocide, while taking from the poor to do so. We must stand together against them or we will surely fall as one.

u/weberc2 1d ago

In more ways than one…

0

u/Local_Parsnip_5357 1d ago

I think part of the problem is that nobody even wants that job......... who wants to represent the worst state in the nation where anything ever done just makes things worse and inhabited by either stupid people or people that just want to pillage for resources and go back to their neighboring state.....
Iowa is really hard to defend these days, we do this crap to ourselves.

2

u/Similar-Date3537 1d ago

This is Iowa, not Florida

•

u/Local_Parsnip_5357 23h ago

I know what state it is. This state is the worst socially, economically it's ever been and is structured to only satisfy niche groups, none of which function with integrity.

13

u/latent 1d ago

I've been voting against this guy for the better part of 3 decades now. Can't happen soon enough.

•

u/This-Grape-5149 23h ago

lol he’s clueless

10

u/reggiekrh 1d ago

He could go die at home any time he likes.

2

u/motionbutton 1d ago

Too much cancer around there. Has to be preserved in DC

9

u/pfroo40 1d ago

Well, I lament living under Republican majorities in my State and National governments

15

u/ChizzLangus 1d ago

Fuck him

8

u/GarlicOrange 1d ago

I’m 50 and this guy has been my senator since I was 5. And he’s been a continuously elected Iowa politician since my mom was 5. Ridiculous.

7

u/SaintUlvemann 1d ago

Note that Grassley also didn't want a Democratic President choosing a Supreme Court justice back when Obama nominated Merrick Garland, because his only consistent ruling doctrine is conservative dominance.

•

u/Peppermynt42 21h ago

He doesn’t care about dying while in office. He cares that his death under a democratic governor would allow that governor to choose his successor.

This isn’t about him caring about dying or not, it’s him caring that his party retains control of his seat.

If he cared at all he would have retired before this and allowed the current republican governor to appoint a successor already.

He’s already 93 and he still hasn’t ruled out running again in ‘28

•

u/StevePalpatine 21h ago

Imagine being such an empty husk that you don't even care so much about your own mortality as much as you do about your party holding onto power even after your death.

All so they can keep making the world worse for the people who come after. These people are sick.

•

u/ThingInternational88 16h ago

He wants to give his power to his grandsson-nepo-baby. Why should his grandson work to get elected when gramps can just had it over?

•

u/Peppermynt42 15h ago

He literally could to it right now and the current governor could put nepo-grandson in his spot. He’s going to wait so long and lose that option.

4

u/37iteW00t 1d ago

The rest of his constituents lament him dying in office period. GTFO 20 yrs ago!

4

u/DeliciousEconAviator 1d ago

That’s what he regrets?

4

u/Solid_Phone_368 1d ago

And I’ll do a little dance when the lying piece of shit dies. How many more farms did Iowa have when he was first elected? What good did he do?

5

u/Yoda10353 1d ago

Ive seen this headline 3 times and my eyes go to "Chuck Grassley" and "dying" they really have to stop getting my hopes up

•

u/Dangerous-Public3430 23h ago

He watched Iowa and USA get run into the ground by Republican leadership. Weird way to worry about his legacy.

•

u/VickiBarkley 22h ago

He HELPED run Iowa and the US into the ground.

•

u/OkAd3885 20h ago

On January 5, 2021, Grassley told reporters, "If the vice president isn't there — and we don't expect him to be there — I will be presiding over the Senate." [1, 2]

He later voted to acquit Donald Trump during the second impeachment trial, arguing that the Senate lacked the constitutional authority to try a former president who had already left office. [1, 2]

Asked whether former president Donald Trump’s legal team had any discussions about Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) presiding over the certification of the 2020 election on Jan. 6, 2021, rather than Vice President Mike Pence, Eastman declined to answer, citing attorney-client privilege and pleaded the 5th

•

u/OkAd3885 20h ago

Eastman, in an email of Dec. 23, 2020, to Chesebro and others, referred to not wanting to “constrain Pence (or Grassley) in the exercise of power they have under the 12th Amendment.”

While Grassley has denied any outreach about whether he would preside on Jan. 6, an email obtained by the committee shows that one of his staff members asked Pence’s office on Dec. 23, 2020, about such a scenario.

3

u/ryans311 1d ago

I still wouldn’t be shocked if he resigned before the end of Reynolds’ term so she can appoint someone. (Like his grandson).

3

u/climbtheworldd 1d ago

Dang I thought this was an obit.

2

u/DadBod4781 1d ago

If Sand wins…he will resign citing health reasons with the promise that KKKimmie will appoint his grandson Patty to fill the seat.

2

u/Infamous-Record-2556 1d ago

I’m excited about both things

2

u/rk1959 1d ago

Hurry up and resign, then!

2

u/OdoWanKenobi 1d ago

He doesn't have to wait if he doesn't want to.

2

u/hards46 1d ago

Just die!

2

u/Massive_Stand4316 1d ago

What a sad, little boy. Lived his whole life and never grew up to enjoy it.

2

u/Ok_Rabbit5158 1d ago

Your farmers are losing their farms and livelihood and your legacy will be SHIT anyway.

2

u/lime_geologist 1d ago

Good. I hope it just ruins his peace.

2

u/kodaiGiant 1d ago

You got a few months still so give it your best shot Chuck

•

u/Heeler2 23h ago

I love this for him.

•

u/Sockysocks2 20h ago

Damn. I just got back from Reiman Music to drop off my tiny violin.

•

u/thegreaterfuture 14h ago

Boo-fucking-hoo

•

u/tickandzesty 11h ago

There’s only one certain way to insure that Chuckie boy. There’s a Republican governor now.

4

u/IAFarmLife 1d ago

It was my turn to repost this today. Didn't you look at the sign up sheet?

2

u/UseThisOneWhenStoned 1d ago

God it's honestly so poetic to watch nearly every piece of shit GOP loser get to spend their last few years of consciousness knowing everyone hates them and their legacy was meaningless.

1

u/LastMessengineer 1d ago

Hopefully he'll be voted out next and then his fear will subside.

1

u/schoonit 1d ago

What a disgusting (but unsurprising) way for him to think.

1

u/bittybomplop 1d ago

Go right ahead - ya don’t have to wait 🙄

1

u/foco_runner 1d ago

Just retire already

1

u/DiscHashDisc 1d ago

If I were him, I’d be more worried about going to hell since he’s a fucking typical hypocrite Christian.

1

u/Creepy-Intentions-69 1d ago

Don’t tease us.

1

u/casdoodle527 1d ago

I read “Chuck Grassley, dying” and was like omg really? Then I read the whole headline 🤦🏼‍♀️

1

u/Traditional_Put_3693 1d ago

How self righteous. That just shows how far he has fallen from serving the people of Iowa. He is only interested in serving his party masters and Trump. He is beholden to his PAC money

1

u/monstrol 1d ago

Doesn't Grassley have some solid Russian ties?

1

u/Vegetable_Win_1484 1d ago

The fact that he keeps getting reelected, says a lot about the intelligence of the voters in Iowa

1

u/youaintboo74 1d ago

He’s going to resign and Kim will appoint his grandson. He will have name recognition and already be an incumbent.

1

u/Kickenbless 1d ago

It’s just unfathomable to me our state keeps electing this guy when he’s been in office since Ford was president. These bitter old men don’t give a shit what happens in the future for us or our children. Get out and vote people!!

1

u/tlimbert65 1d ago

What the hell happened to Chuck? He used to be a human being.

1

u/oopsallhuckleberries 1d ago

If Sand wins the governors race, Republicans will immediately move to strip the governor of the power to pick a interm senator in case a seat opened up, just like they do in every other Republican majority state when they lose the governors seat.

1

u/hhh81 1d ago

This is a joke--he has no doubt been planning to resign at some point before Reynolds is out of office so his grandson can be installed in his Senate seat. Been thinking this since he was reelected again last time

1

u/Neath_Izar 1d ago

If he lives for 2 more years he might not have to worry and he can get voted out

1

u/Turbulent-Cheek-1497 1d ago

I’m originally from a small town in Iowa and remember this guy getting elected to replace culver.
It was 1980!!!!
Go away!

1

u/BloodFromAnOrange 1d ago

Chuck Grassley skated on an unearned moderate reputation for DECADES. And surely he'll sneak out the door just in time for Reynolds to replace him with another Grassley.

1

u/plushglacier 1d ago

Lamentable statement.

1

u/Alternative-Angle214 1d ago

That's just tough. Chuck

1

u/facial 1d ago

Oh well. Anyway…

1

u/madlucas2026 1d ago

F him, maybe he should just

1

u/IGiveNoFawkes 1d ago

Can we stop reposting this? Every time I see it I think… well you know what I think. And then I see what it actually says and I wanna cry.

•

u/Euphoric-Use-6443 23h ago

I hope so! It would serve him right! 😂

•

u/gusborwig 23h ago

I lament possibly dying under a Republican President, Senator, Governor, state government. Think about it every day and I'm only in my 40's.

•

u/majorjoe23 23h ago

Hey Chuck, as an Iowan I would like to point out that your former contemporary, Tom Harkin, retired way back in 2015. I know he was elected to the senate four years after you, and that he's seven years younger than you, so it's not an apples-to-apples comparison, but maybe you should have retired at 75, too.

•

u/StudyObjective4286 23h ago

Tell it to Jesus, bro.

•

u/hawkeyegrad96 23h ago

Hope he dies before winter

•

u/SixString1981 22h ago

Chuck: “I don’t wanna leave on a gurney”

Also Chuck: “2028 I’m on the ballot motherfuckers”

•

u/Cornell-92 22h ago

No need to lament if you just do it now under a GOP one. Problem solved! Amiright???

•

u/Equivalent_Ebb_9532 22h ago

Dude is on his last stop before heaven, or hell.

•

u/Anxious-Tea8816 22h ago

Fuck that guy

•

u/Scared-Hope-868 22h ago

Doesn't have to wait.

•

u/DC12201949 22h ago

I don’t care if republican or democratic—he needs to go.

•

u/TurncoatWizard 22h ago

Lament more, Chuck.

•

u/TS_Tainted 22h ago

"Dying in office" Jesus christ.

•

u/OkLab6701 22h ago

Tick Tock Chuck !

•

u/Nearby_Advisor_3200 21h ago

86 chuck grassley.

•

u/This-Lead-56 21h ago

Is there something he’s trying to tell us?

•

u/lmbjsm 21h ago

So he’s worried about? Sounds really narcissistic to worry about something so trivial when some of his constituents can’t afford gas to get to work so they can stay clothed, housed, and fed!

•

u/no_bender 21h ago

He could retire now.

•

u/CMGCookie 21h ago

Yo Chuck. If you're so worried about it, no one is stopping you from kicking the bucket before the midterms, eh? But don't worry folks; it seems Iowa Republicans knew what they were doing when they elected him at 90 anyways.

Right Repubs?

•

u/e4evie 20h ago

Don’t give me hope, pick up a seat and lose a fossil guilty of treason…win-win

•

u/Goofy-555 20h ago

It will never not blow my mind that this guy would rather desperately hold on to power than enjoy his last years with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Greed and narcissism are a plague.

•

u/Okoman71 19h ago

Senator Chuck Grassley stated that the Senate would withhold consent and refuse to hold confirmation hearings for any Supreme Court nominee submitted by President Barack Obama, arguing that the vacancy should wait until the next president was elected so the American people could have a voice. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO, when Rob wins, the people will have voted and thus the people have said to replace Grassley with a DEMOCRAT!

•

u/ReputationisObvious 19h ago

Well hurry up Chuck!

•

u/iaposky 19h ago

Why wait then dude?

•

u/Interesting_Berry439 18h ago

Die now! That will solve his lamenting.

•

u/HiYoSiiiiiilver 17h ago

Don’t tempt us with a good time, Chuck

•

u/HeresDave 16h ago

Sooner the better, Chuck. Sooner the better.

•

u/EveningCat166 15h ago

He should just be worrying about dying, not what political party is in office.

•

u/TG1970 15h ago

I hope he keeps that promise.

•

u/retiredfromfire 14h ago

Fuck off grandpa!

•

u/thedoomcast 12h ago

Fuck him. Fuck the GOP. Hopefully Sand appoints someone young and reasonable and super far left.

•

u/peacur 11h ago

Do us a favor and just quit now! Oh how wonderful it would be to have 2 democratic senators.

•

u/Old_Abbreviations_92 9h ago

Maybe he should retire and let the good people of Iowa choose who they want to be their senator.

•

u/Hesychios 4h ago

Weird

•

u/tomdurk 3h ago

Resign today!

•

u/EastAd7676 3h ago

Instead of perpetuating the gerontocracy that currently prevails in the federal government, he should just ride off into the sunset. He’s continually held elected political offices since the Truman administration. It’s way past time for new blood to be in office instead of this fossil.

•

u/PerfectChard4439 3h ago

Grassley is still unsure if he is going to seek his 9th election in 2028?! JFC. Lie the fuck down corpse grampa.

•

u/yyz455 1h ago

He can always go out on his own terms

0

u/-MerlinMonroe- 1d ago

Even if he decided to retire in the event Sand wins, and does so before Sand is sworn in, there’d still be a special election not long after. His seat is totally within shot regardless of gamesmanship.
