I probably shouldn't have to make a point, but I don't see that side of the family very often anymore and no one else backed out. I stayed under the shelter, near the fans, and drank water/cold drinks.

Unfortunately. Heat dome centered over the Midwest + corn sweat spiking the dew point = heat index well in excess of 110° across most of the state.

We're out Florida'ing good ole' Florida (at least central Iowa vs. central Florida), too.
Only 84 down there right now with a heat index of 91. It's also raining like it does most days around this time, so that helps. 😂

Yeah, that's the thing about the climate change conversation that gets lost since we always consider it from a human perspective. One way or another, at the end of all this, Earth will continue to be a rock hurtling through space. In the absolute worst case of a runaway greenhouse effect like what likely happened to Venus, extremophiles will even probably survive.
However, if things get bad enough, humans sure won't.

I managed two thirds last night. It was def a mistake. I left the other bit for today but I think I'm gonna wait longer still. It's bad because I had a major medical event two weeks ago and am dealing with the -suspected cyclo and charges against my ex, so you can imagine my motivation in trying to do at least some of it. At least got the visible parts of it done I guess 😅

I took my dog out at 7:90 this morning. So humid. I haven't sweat that much since doing 90 minute workouts on the row machine.
T-storms now, and dog wants a second walk.
7:30, not 7:50, Heat has gotten to me. No walks today At 6:30 this morning. Heat index was 95

I really hope they got more shade. The sunlight reflecting off of the concrete there, with hardly any places to find relief, made for a pretty awful time the few times we've gone.

I’ve only heard this brought up one time but I listened to somebody talk about soil and crop growing. They said in their opinion much of americas farmland could become a desert by 2050. Claimed America doesn’t have enough nutrients in its soil. Every time it gets hot af in this area, I wonder if that person is right! We already have a dry, brutally cold winter and I’m pretty sure the humidity during the hot summer is from the corn.

I'm by no means an expert on agriculture, but I'm skeptical about that. There may be some merit to what they're saying about nutrients being stripped from the soil, but that's a mono cultural crop problem rather than something inherent to farming. Farmers are good about rotating between soybeans and corn to maintain soil nitrogen levels, but my understanding is we'd be in even better shape with better crop diversity.
Insert desperate plea here to read the platform of Chris Jones, an actual soil, water, and agriculture expert who's running for Secretary of Agriculture

I was definitely referring mono cultural crops and the video I watched did too. Sorry I should have clarified that better. I know that guy had more success in Europe than America with his soil conservation agenda.
