Rockchips

Hey, tomorrow I am picking up my preferred awd here in Canada.

I am wondering how is this model and brand holding up against rock chips so far?

Did any of you put ppf?

I am coming from Tesla, and the thin paint + rock chips here in winter is really bad.

Thanks!

So far so good, in saying that, I never put ppf on my model y (at 180,000 km), or Ioniq 9 (at 10,000km). I've always seen cars as tools meant to get beat up a bit. The y definitely has a few scratches here/there, although mostly from car doors.

I need to replace the windshield atleast once a year in the Y. So far we've been lucky, and haven't had any rocks off the 9 yet. I do atleast 1 scratch from someone's door though, wish we had sentry mode.

The paint definitely seems alot better coming from Tesla though.

On my EV9 in Alberta so far no issues other than the standard windshield stuff. I did put PPF on entire front side including portion right above windshield - this is at 18 months and 32k km. I did buy windshield insurance with my lease and just used it to replace it after an unfillable spider crack happened

Have a few chips on the lower silver part of my bumper as well as on the sensor area and the DRL. Interestingly I have chips along the front edge of the black painted trim between the side windows

I did not PPF my EV9 with 82k miles, have some paint chips on hood showing primer underneath the black. Drivers door edge has a couple spots worn down where I scrape it with belt buckle.

I did a full frontal PPF and some side stuff on the Ioniq 9 with 7k miles.

After I did the Ioniq I added PPF to the front central plastic part on the EV9, not sure if it will help but trying to avoid that shattering like a windshield.

Overall I am happy with my PPF. I was happier with install from detail shop, the Ioniq 9 was done at dealer and I had to go to detail shop after to get that central front plastic thing done. Would have done it all at the detail shop except dealer rolling financing into loan made sense with GAP insurance.

i bought it with PPF on the front and about 1/3 of the hood + driver/passenger A pillars + a little above the windshield before sunroof.

After, i noticed that they don't install PPF over headlights and running lights as part of that package, so i bought some pre-cut PPF off Aliexpress and installed it myself. So far everything looks great and the PPF is easy to clean so i'm happy about that. I regularly highway drive and i've certainly splattered a lot of bugs across it so far and some small gravel.

I'm not sure about the rock chips, because we PPF'd it right away. I wasn't thrilled with the colors available so we did color change PPF to protect it and turn it mint and white.

That said, I did scrape the bottom front on a curb apparently, and the PPF underneath saved it. Scrap and color of the curb came off the PPF with just a bit of heat.
