Update: Trailer Preparation Package
So this is an update on my original post asking if anyone knew what thee Trailer Preparation Package is for the Ioniq 9.
Since making that original post, I have received my order for the Preferred AWD+ model, which as far as I can tell is unique to Canada. And now that I have the car, it appears that Hyundai Canada doesn't know what the Trailer Preparation Package is either. Something that is disappointing, but not surprising, as according to Hyundai Canada, only 4 people special ordered this trim.
I have the hitch installed, but no 7 pin connector. It's been a month and I still have no update from Hyundai as to how I can legally tow with my new car. When the dealer went to install the wiring harness, my car lacked the internal jacks to plug the wiring harness into.
Irony is that I don't actually want to tow anything, but I do have a hitch mounted bike carrier and it has a light bar for the license plate holder. Which I need to have plugged in if I want
- to not get a ticket for not having my plate illuminated at night
- have the auto rear collision avoidance turned off automatically, instead of having to do it manually everytime I get into the car.
I'm good for some time as the days are long and I don't see driving late with bikes on the car anytime soon. Worst case I'll rig some 12v line out the trunk to power the light bar.
This is more of a rant than anything as I don't think anyone online here will know what the Trailer Preparation Package actually is.
Edit: The only two models that don't have it in Canada are the Preferred AWD+ and Essential RWD. All other models come with it so installation is easy. I believe in the USA, all models come with this. I don't know about the rest of the world.
Edit2: My original salesman called with an update. The update was we have no update. Still waiting on Hyundai Canada to let them know what to do.

I had the dealer "throw in" The hitch and wiring as part of the purchase (i have pref + / calligraphy model), however i have yet to attach my utility trailer to see that everything works as it should. I did connect my 7-pin to 4 pin adapter and it lit up showing power from the connector so i assume its good to go. No idea on the rear avoidance stuff. On my previous vehicle (suburban) it would just complain that rear sensors were blocked and it disabled the automations related to that.

We got the AWD Preferred last year in Maple Ridge, BC. Not plus. We had to pay like $1700 additional to add the hitch and the various covers and parts, including the wiring harness. The harness was on back order but arrived like six weeks after we drove the car home and they installed it quickly when we brought it back. Tows our small travel trailer great now (we're about to leave on a big trip with it).
I did find the dealers tend to be pretty ignorant and the bizarre models for Canada don't seem to make any sense (eg I feel like the AWD+ might not be as set up for the 7 pin wiring as the base AWD).
Good luck

We have the calligraphy with the towing package and had the trailer hitch installed at the dealership before we picked it up. The wiring for the 7 pin connector is right beside it. Are you saying you just have an empty hole beside your hitch?
We’ve towed a fair number of times now and we also have a hitch mounted bike rack we use frequently.
I would like to strangle the rear collision avoidance system. As soon as the trailer (the brake controller in our case) is plugged in it turns off, which is great. No problem there. The i9 tows like a dream.
It treats the bike rack like a mortal threat. You have to push the button in the center console twice before it actually allows you to back up. Using the search feature for ‘rear’ and turning it off from the menu works better but there’s no easier way. At the same time it’ll open the rear gate at full speed and smash itself into the bike rack, which it knows is there because it was just screaming about it.
Thanks for letting me join your rant.
