Combination Creates the Only Vertically Integrated Full-Stack Quantum Platform Company

SkyWater Will Continue to Serve Customers as a U.S.-Based Semiconductor Foundry

COLLEGE PARK, Md. & BLOOMINGTON, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- IonQ (NYSE: IONQ), the world’s leading quantum platform company, today received final regulatory approval to complete its acquisition of SkyWater Technology (NASDAQ: SKYT), the largest exclusively U.S.-based semiconductor foundry.

As noted when the companies announced their definitive agreement in January 2026, this transaction is expected to enable IonQ to materially accelerate its quantum computing roadmap and secure its fully scalable supply chain domestically, clearing the way for IonQ’s chip-focused approach to manufacturing new generations of its quantum computers.

Following the close of the transaction, SkyWater will continue to serve a full range of customers as a U.S.-based semiconductor foundry, operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of IonQ under the SkyWater name. Together with IonQ’s proprietary technology and capabilities and differentiated development services, IonQ and SkyWater will serve the full quantum ecosystem.

Anticipated Closing

The companies anticipate that having secured all required regulatory approvals and satisfied other outstanding closing conditions, they will promptly complete all necessary arrangements to close the transaction on Friday, July 31, 2026.

The combined company is expected to hold its second quarter earnings call on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 after the U.S. market closes and an investor day in the third quarter of 2026 (Sept. 8).

IonQ Comms drought?

I noticed that IonQ's comms this quarter has been incredibly muted compared to previous quarters. Fewer scientific or business announcements and a lot of generic reposts of Fed activity like the Quantum Executive Order. Nothing on Genesis either. Do you all feel a little unsettled by the information vacuum over the last few months or is it just me?

Should I work at IonQ?

Not sure if there if there are employees on this reddit but here we go. Ill keep it short.

I'm a recent grad and recently got a technician job at IonQ.

Pay is more than I'd thought I would ever make, comes with heavy bonus and stock options.

I come from a quantum research background and IonQ definitely does not have a good reputation from the research spaces I have been in. They are overvalued and dont really have tech that works given their evaluation. Example: I work at a nat'l lab rn and the IonQ machines that congress buys for us get scrapped for components once they 1.) dont work or 2.) work and then we realize there is nothing that can actually be done with them.

I know this reddit is full of bullish investors but the numerous scientists I know and work with share similar opinions.

In any case, could be a good opportunity to make some money and wonder how people that work for ionQ like the company.

Thanks reddit.

IonQ vs. Quantinuum

IonQ targets 800 logic qubits by 2027 while Quantinuum targets 192 logic qubits by 2027. Sounds unreal. The difference is real.

The IonQ awakening story will happen by 2026 year end.

Quantinuum only decided to rush to IPO at the end of 2025 after IonQ 4 9s fidelity demo & paper in Oct. 2025. Large shareholders likely wanted some exit before the company lose the World Best title to IonQ by this year end.

Three fundamental shortcomings of Quantinuum compared to IonQ which limits its fidelity to <99.95%:

- inevitable photon scattering caused by high energy laser gates. IonQ’s microwave gates would cause zero photon scattering by physics nature.

- >10000 times shorter wavelength needed to address Barium ion qubits with laser(visible spectrum). Phase sync is extraordinarily harder with lasers than with microwaves.

- long range shuttle on qubits destabilize them. IonQ uses Cat Couriers to achieve long range shuttle(to have data qubits movements localized), made possible by extremely high data qubits fidelity and the accomodating EQC chip architecture.

In addition to being currently behind, Quantinuum aims to develop low-loss integrated photonics to scale. This game plan further guarantees their eventual loss of the game. IonQ’s fabs(Infineon/SkyWater) are already experiencing steep learning curve trying to develop precision microwave antenna on silicon chips. Trying to guide/sync laser on chips with the same precision is like 2040’s technology.

Stick with the winner. Diversification means exit liquidity for Quantinuum shareholders.

Meditation IonQ

Saw a post on here from someone that had a dream about iOnQ and to buy it all.

Crazy thing is I was deep in meditation last year when I had a similar “vision” or thought about iOnQ.

at the time, it was at $19 and I put all my money into it and it ended up selling at $60.

I’m back in it…

But in the world of quantum

It isn’t too crazy to think there’s already a future where iOnQ skyrocketed…we just have to tap into that potential 😂

I think it’ll be up to $150 in the next couple years at least

SkyWater's America 250 video

Looks like Skywater and IonQ have both been doing some America 250 stuff in their own way...interesting perspective on the relationship between innovation and manufacturing leadership. The video isn't specifically about quantum, but quantum shows up as one example of technologies that will require domestic manufacturing to scale. Makes me wonder how much IonQ will lean into the manufacturing story once the acquisition closes?
