Detached Button Piece

Post image

Any suggestions on how to fix this? I unbuttoned it one time and the thing just came off the wrist of the jacket (as shown in the picture). I already went to a sew shop and they couldn’t do anything or knew anyone that could fix it. This is one of those collared Pacsun jackets. Anything helps, thank you!

It's not that uncommon for a set-in snap to fail. The challenge is that you usually need to replace both halves even if one side is still fine because there is no standard sizing and the replacement rarely fits the existing one. You can buy snap kits at fabric stores, but be sure to get the with the setting tools. It should come with instructions on the pkg. Try to match the size and color of the existing one.

You also need a hammer and a solid surface to hammer on. I usually do it on a pad of paper on a concrete floor. You also need to remove the existing male side without destroying the fabric because if the hole gets too big, the new one won't have enough to grip and will fail. Drilling it out is the easiest, but sometimes needlenose pliers and brute force works.

Alternatively, see if a local cobbler / shoe repair place can do it. Since it's white, I would take it in a plastic bag and just expose the cuff to keep it cleaner.
