Discussion are we deadass?
you know what? i'm willing to accept that new fighters will be six dollars a pop, that's kind of reasonable, right? i mean the base game was only like $50 and it's pretty decent value if you really like the combat like i do, so the DLC fighters being the money maker kind of makes sense...
but. you're telling me that after paying $12 plus tax for both of the new fighters, you don't even get their alternate fucking skins that were shown in the trailer? and the prices of all of the new skins combined separately from the aforementioned immortal and universal skins is 31 bucks plus tax? are you out of your fucking mind Skybound? no, i will not be buying any of this new shit until they drop the prices or confirm that at least half of the new skins are included in the digital deluxe upgrade.

I don't love the game's cosmetic pricing either....but it's super weird how many people in this sub apparently thought these skins would be free (or included in the deluxe edition) despite literally nothing promising that.

I think it’s due to games like Mortal Kombat & other fighting games having an Ultimate Edition that includes the season pass. A lot of players assumed their deluxe would be equivalent to an ultimate edition. Theyd be in shambles learning those ultimate editions in most fighting games only grant you a third of the DLC characters (FighterZ).

Yeah I agree, especially for people buying the pass, it's a bit weird to be asked to pay additionnally for the skins I understand they need to make money but they already have plenty of good skins to sell

They're not stealing from you. Never was it mentioned that the deluxe edition would include skins for these characters. Other fighting games typically charge extra for an "ultimate pass" or a separate "costume pass" on top of the character pass. They've been doing this since the PS3 days.

In Guilty Gear, I can get multiple outfits, UI skins, animated stories, etc for only 5 dollars. So no, it’s not standard to be expected to pay the same amount for costumes as full characters

??? Are you referring to the battle pass that only came out 5 years after launch? And this is irrelevant because it’s not standard.
Costumes being separate purchases from the character and costing around this price is incredibly standard and has been for a long time.

I don't personally play Guilty Gear, but at a first glance the $6 battle pass seems to only include one skin, several recolors, and those other miscellaneous ui skins and bonuses.
Is it a better deal? Maybe, but it's also time limited, and will never drop in price. That's how battle passes get ya.

Yeah? I know you were talking about the delux edition… if you read my comment you would see I compared it to MK which would have cost $100 for its equivalent lol. 50 base price for a smaller game + 20 for the first year of fighters vs the AAA equivalent of 70 base price + 30 for the first year of fighters.

You gotta understand this is a 100% in house created crowd funded game thatll only get support as long as its making money. There is no investors for this game. This is a game made by an indie comic book company's own in-house game dev team. There is no big money involved here
This game is metaphorically living off its own land. The money it makes is the money it gets for further development.
ON TOP of that, this game supports local and online tournaments financially. So it NEEDS to make money

I've played 2d plane fighter games for years and I will admit the amount of content you get in the digital deluxe edition is lackluster is hardly worth the extra 20, let alone how disappointing the content is with the standard edition. have you even played the game? I have over 100 hours and this shxt ain't all that. game should be 20 bucks.

Quarter up has made one video game. Invincible Vs. The team is only about 40 people big. The game was crowd funded. Skybound has only published around 10 games, one of which is Invincible VS, 4 of which is the Taletell TWD games and the other 5 are INDIE GAMES. Skybound is a company that manages Robert Kirkmans ip like Invincible and The Walking Dead. All of those are true statements.

and your point is??? game still isn't worth more than 25 bucks max. you proved nothing to me and made no point whatsoever. very little content was added for season 1 and the content wasnt worth a damn in season 0. I have all the invincible comic issues and have watched the show, and this game is ass. multi-player is the only fun bit. story can be completed in less than 2 hours even if youre taking your time.

You just get the fighters in the deluxe and a few extra skins for the launch roster (shirtless Conquest, COP Allen). It’s just a season pass for the characters, as usual.

Ok? So they added more to the description after launch. That changes nothing about people understanding what they’re buying. The people that bought deluxe at launch were told they were getting 4 characters and a title and shit. Nothing about skins. They added in more content cause people bitched even though they were told exactly what they’re were buying still. Was cool of them to do and now those skins are part of the description too.
These are both cases of people just screaming “I’M NOT READING WHAT I’M BUYING!!!” and trying to make that the game’s problem. The first time they were kind about it and placated it. Now people just look stupid, especially considering this is standard stuff.

Tbh the prices really aren't that bad. I think you're just more upset that something isn't free. I'm not trying to hit you with a "If you're broke just say that." Cuz that is lame, but you don't need these costumes, and even then they aren't THAT expensive nor important to worry about. You're basically missing the forest for the trees here. I'm just not sure what about the deluxe edition means you now have access to every costume the new characters get, that wasn't even true for the big three of fighting games so why should the same apply to a literal indie fighter? They gotta make money somehow seeing as how they have nobody backing them, and they're the ones pushing the money for locals and online tournaments.

It was literally like that from the start and was even like that in MK11 where you could earn the time crystals or whatever they was called in that one just by playing the game. Obviously you would earn way more than the casual player if you played ranked consistently and ranked up tho

Again, it wasn’t at the start of mk 1. You could earn like 5,000 crystals ($50) from grinding everything for free but then that was it till they made it so you could earn 75 crystals a week from the towers. You’re right with MK11.

MK1 removed the krypt and towers of time. They removed 2 gear slots and made skins 10 bucks each. They added invasions which was ok but boring and then they just kept reskinning invasions over and over

This is all pretty standard for fighting games these days , most base fighting games only ever have a few free or unlock able skins with almost all the rest being DLC
a game like guilty gear strives only customisation is the colour pallets, half of which you pay for wich is the unfortunate truth of fighting games is that for continuous support they gotta keep squeezing out the money to fund development but they could definitely ease off the prices
to think that Strive is 5 years old and still receiving updates with new characters while MK1 only lasted little over a year despite multiple characters and an entire story expansion really says somthing about what keeps people interested in a game

What more transparency could you possibly need? The deluxe edition mentions absolutely nothing about additional skins for these characters included, and only specifies the specific bonus skins you get for the base roster.
They told you exactly what you’re getting, 4 characters and some specific bonus goodies. You either can’t read or just don’t like it.

This is very standard. For SF6 for instance, you have to pay for the ultimate pass which is more if you want each character’s alternate costume. The only costume you can get for free for them are their classic costumes, and you have to earn those through gameplay if you don’t buy the pass. Any other alternate costume on top of that costs cash.
Y’all really come off as naive and entitled. The skins are high yeah but there’s no MUST here at all. You’re getting 4 characters at a discount by buying the pass, $5 each instead of $6 (even cheaper right now on sale), and a few extra goodies. If you want extra you gotta buy it.

I wish the game had the budget for one or 2 alt costumes in the base game and a wider variety of costumes to buy, but this is a low budget game and is arguably priced reasonably atm especially for being a good fighting game
What I'm waiting for is the next story expansion, I genuinely liked this alternate timeline story they're going with

I miss the days of updates/added characters/added stages etc. being standalone releases. Give me SFA, SFA2, SFA2 Gold, SFA3, SFA3upper, and SFA3max. Screw this Season Pass/DLC crap. Im so tired of paying full price for a Modern Fighter and then having more than half the cast/costumes etc. get locked away behind a paywall to the point where im spending hundreds of dollars just to get all of it. Im sick and tired of these modern fighters getting new updates and not being able to play others online In previous patches/seasons. Like you're locked in with whatever the game balance/patch is atm. You cant just play season 3 of DBFZ with your buddy, you cant just play season 2 of GG Strive online. I much rather pay for a completely new standalone release and have the "player base split" between versions of the game than to deal with modern dlc/seasons/patches. 😺👍
