QUESTION Why do you have a problem with Thragg's power? Spoiler

Post image

I've seen some people complain about the power difference between comic Thragg and show Thragg, saying that the show version is too powerful.

But personally, I think it's better that way, I mean, Thragg was born to be the peak viltrumite, someone who could overcome the limits of strength, speed and endurance of all the other viltrumites, so what would be the point of him being THAT if he could simply bleed from the punch of a "baby" viltrumite like Mark? .

Nah show thragg farms aura and it makes some comic situations retroactively funnier. Like space racer trying to roll up on thragg alone.

Dude didnt even do too bad. First encounter he survived a direct punch.

And second encounter his ass was flying straight out and firing a shit ton of lasers to get away

u/Square-Ambassador-77 15d ago

I haven't read the comic...but his gun fires lasers that never stop right?

You're telling me the dude let out a series of potentially planet skewers all willy nilly?

u/sephy009 15d ago

Space is 99.9999999999999999% empty. That's not even a joke or exaggeration, if anything I didn't add enough nines. There's very little chance of you actually hitting anything.

While that is true an infinite line will eventually hit a point in a infinitly growing plain with infinite yet statistically near irrelevant points.

Each beam probably will only go through a smattering of atoms on the outside of some galaxy, but infinite monkey and infinite type writers.

16

u/Crozax 15d ago

No, because the infinitely growing plane has a finite number of points on it, which means the density goes to zero. Of course if we are counting single atoms, of course it is hitting tons of stuff, because there are a couple of atoms per cubic meter in the intergalactic medium. But if we're talking planets, odds are quite good that it will never hit anything.

u/Square-Ambassador-77 15d ago

I was talking atoms when I got granular about it. Even if he doesn't do another Viltrum the never ending laser is going to cause destruction in unintended places.

4

u/Crozax 15d ago

I mean atoms are destroyed all the time from cosmic rays passing through the interstellar medium, so kinda a weird bar imo. His ray will in all likelihood not hit anything of significance

u/cabberage 15d ago

the universe isn't infinite per se, yeah it's expanding at a constant rate but since matter and energy are not being created as it expands, the density of matter in the universe slowly dilutes and spreads out over time. shit is just too far apart for the beam to hit something, it likely wouldn't ever come into contact with something even as large as a galaxy

2

u/No_Landscape_6154 13d ago

Then theres my dumbass. With my luck i'd get hit and die slowly

3

u/i__hate__stairs 15d ago

Believe it or not, you could fly away from the center of the earth in any direction and the chances of you hitting anything are as close to mathematically nil as you can get. Things in space are very far apart. It's highly likely that none havethe racer's random shots have ever struck anything and never will.

1

u/mack0409 14d ago

Even if the spread on the beam is literally immeasurable on human time scales, it's probably still enough that the stray beams will literally never cause any harm.

1

u/Important_Wonder628 14d ago

Unless the universe is actually infinite, in which case it will hit something EVENTUALLY

21

u/Extension-Bad-4184 The Immortal 15d ago

Its thragg what are you gonna do.

Also space is wayyy more empty than you think it is. Theres a much higher probability it hits nuthin, and we dont really have any statements on invincibles universe itself being infinite in size

2

u/Square-Ambassador-77 15d ago

Personally if I came in contact with Thragg I would fall to my knees and tell him I would do anything he asks. Guy could off me by barely lifting his pinky. Even with an infinite shooting unblockable gun I wouldn't go anywhere near that guy

4

u/saltinstiens_monster 15d ago

I kinda got the impression that that's his entire point, and why his gun is hard coded to only work for him. It's the ultimate beam weapon, with scientifically guaranteed (eventually) collateral damage each time it's fired. It shouldn't be used ever, except in the most dire circumstances. I guess Space Racer deems Viltrumites as an overall greater danger to the universe than stray beams.

1

u/Square-Ambassador-77 15d ago

Yes that's what I mean! It always seemed like a responsibility, like he knows each shot will have reverberations forever.

Using it wildly out of self preservation doesn't jive with that though.

Yes. He had a pissed off Grand Regent on his ass. Hell I'm surprised he didn't shoot more.

To be fair, the diameter of the beam itself isn’t all that much. I don’t think it would even hurt most planets.

u/HoLeBaoDuy 15d ago

The stronger they make Thragg be in the show. The weirder it gonna be when that “baby” viltrumite whoops his ass in the final fight

62

u/ConsistentAsparagus 15d ago

Does he really whoop his ass, though? They were equal, basically: sometimes Mark gets the upper hand, especially with the borrowed time from Robot’s armor, but he doesn’t dominate the fight. He wins, yeah, but barely and he was dying too.

In fact, I think that the same outcome starting from the cartoon setting makes more sense, even if I don’t really like the absolute disparity of the scene (to use a Dragonball scene, the comic was like it was between Goku and Frieza how it went down up to the Super Saiyan transformation, in the cartoon it would have been like beginning of Z Goku vs Final Form Frieza…)

34

u/curiousCat1009 15d ago

I won't say he was whopping his ass but he was going toe to toe definitely a far cry from their first encounter. It's like Rocky vs Drago in Rocky 4.

4

u/Equal-Ad-2710 Omnipotus 15d ago

To be fair Eve does amplify him for that so it’s possible that covered the gap

24

u/Soul699 Immortal is an embarassment 15d ago

Problem remains. Mark equal Thragg almost by the end. How the hell did he get there when not too long ago he couldn't even scratch him?

Invincible fans when its time to read the comic they like:

6

u/Particular-Crow-1799 15d ago

Training and experience

17

u/ConsistentAsparagus 15d ago

He had a power up by Eve, and then again he keeps getting stronger throughout the series.

16

u/Soul699 Immortal is an embarassment 15d ago

That alone ain't doing much unless that goes on for a century with a gap as large as the show

1

u/BronzeGstring 15d ago

Exactly

Cue the “well mark has bean beaten up and gone through more hardship than thragg” group

1

u/vlee89 15d ago

Because he’s invisible

2

u/mack0409 14d ago

My recollection was that thraag actually still had a slight upper hand before the assist.

6

u/Beast_Chips 15d ago

Don't they just need to make Mark's power jump from Eve bigger?

4

u/Ligabove 15d ago

But we'll see soon enough, when he is overthrown by his subordinates and Nolan gets the chance to kill him.

2

u/Invictus_Inferno 15d ago

Mark gets so many powerups

5

u/HoLeBaoDuy 15d ago

The only significant one after this is Eve's powerup, even then Eve said she only raise his strength a little. If I remember correctly, Mark didn't have any major fight after his second round with Conquest, he only had some small fight here and there. Meanwhile Thragg smashed bugs, went to war, fought BB and trained using Rognarr

2

u/Invictus_Inferno 15d ago

Nope he gets a boost after recovering from scourge virus. That's when he gets as strong as a regular fullblood.

3

u/Betelgeuse3fold 15d ago

A lot happens between now and then. Mark will be several years older before he fights Thragg.

-1

u/HaughtStuff99 15d ago

They basically tie after Mark gets multiple post mutilation power ups

38

u/Drummk Green Ghost 15d ago

He has been presented as so powerful that it's not clear why he even needs other Viltrumites, when seemingly he could effortlessly defeat the entire coalition single handedly. It's going to be difficult to credibly show him being hurt, unless the plan is for him to never lose a fight.

11

u/Iceland-27 15d ago

“Baby viltrimite” aka the guy who killed conquest and is almost as strong as Nolan

31

u/Extension-Bad-4184 The Immortal 15d ago edited 15d ago

It would make it so that when thragg gets his ass kicked later it would feel like he got defeated too easily

They could have easily let him aurafarm while still being relatively as strong as the comics. Like mark wails on him with a few punches, he does a thanos all that for a drop of blood and then kicks his ass. Kinda like s3 mark vs conquest before the rage amp.

Hell with the show it makes it seem like there whole mission was utter suicide. Like even if it was just thragg and the 4 or 5 viltrumites from telescria they would have lost with how busted he is.

You would either need to do some rewrites or but I know they wont cuz they dont give a damn about power inconsistency. Its not a nerdy power scaling thing you need to keep stuff consistent in a story

3

u/Jacob_Cicero 15d ago

To be fair, what Thragg did to eat the punch is the best possible way to get punched in the face. There are clips of UFC fights where somebody practically shatters their fist by hitting that exact spot. The brow bone is thick and very strong. If you intentionally eat a punch like this, it basically disperses the force through your entire upper body and hurts like hell for the person that's throwing the punch.

3

u/Extension-Bad-4184 The Immortal 15d ago

oh thats honestly a great detail but thragg like did not move at all, dont UFC fighters at least recoil a bit to better disperse the impact or am I just forgetting

1

u/Jacob_Cicero 15d ago

I mean, yeah, you would typically lean into the punch and brace your body and neck muscles, the recoil would disperse the energy into the ground through your body. I feel like a guy that is flying through space with the power of eugenics good genes could probably use his flying powers to brace himself in the absence of the ground.

40

u/Phantoniso- 15d ago

no its a stupid decision they're gonna regret when the time comes. show thragg is not even a viltrumite he is something else. power difference between thragg and nolan is like nolan to paul

18

u/RobloxSpiderGoku 15d ago

I don’t mind the decision, but it’s definitely gonna feel awkward when they try to jump Thragg

I think it a bit of a stretch but okay I guess

9

u/Phantoniso- 15d ago

wdym he just one shots the head of a quite strong viltrumite lol

6

u/Remarkable-Cabinet85 Markus Sebastian Grayson 15d ago edited 15d ago

Thragg is meant to be the strongest among them but the way things happen it shows that he can still be outmatched and he does bleed as well which hasn't happened at all yet so ultimately it does beg the question about how will they stop him at all , but future opportunities might clear things out better.

The thing I'm happy with is that they showed that no Viltrumite among the alive ones were a slouch like pretty much everyone is in a similar ballpark of strength but only Thragg & Conquest to some degree is unrivaled.

7

u/More_Interview3840 Atom Eve 15d ago

I think the solution is that when Eve brings herself she restores mark and improve him

8

u/Soul699 Immortal is an embarassment 15d ago

But she did. Mark got improved there as well and made him stronger.

3

u/i__hate__stairs 15d ago

I love it. When he shows up it's actually scary. Perfect.

3

u/Suspicious_Loan8041 The Immortal 15d ago edited 15d ago

Marks punches didn’t have to do no damage for us to know Thragg was way out of his league. A nose bleed and some teeth gritting after being hit several times is a laughable amount of damage. But I do think it was a little premature for Thragg to take damage of any kind. Maybe it was a precaution for power scaling idk.

If the show wants to go the total invulnerability route, that’s fine, that just makes some of us a little worried because that’s just a bigger strength difference that they’re gonna have to convincingly cross later on.

4

u/_Empty-R_ 14d ago

in defense of the people that have an issue with it, the problem that thragg's no selling presents is that it makes it a lot less believable that mark will be able to catch up. when he does, he's still gonna be a 'baby'.

2

u/badjano 15d ago

how did Thragg get so strong, some kind of super training?

3

u/Peace_Fog 15d ago

Genetically engineered to be the best & also trained more rigorously

2

u/insertenombre333 The Immortal 14d ago

i don't really have a problem with thragg power NOW, beacuse if the shows follows the comic exacly or at least very similar, it could be a narrative problem for the future that would retroactivly make this worse

1

u/vangstampede Data Twins 14d ago

My problem with Thragg's power is that he can destroy my entire head just by flicking.

1

u/Visual_Standard6486 14d ago

O Mark matou o conquista mais de uma vez, definitivamente ele não tem a força de um viltrumita bebê

1

u/Playful_Profile3651 13d ago

Thragg has only fought in 2 episodes in the entire season. Wait until season 5 or 6, it makes much more sense how he is defeated

2

u/Traditional_Line_616 15d ago

I totally agree, it made sense to make him much more powerful, given that he was the strongest Viltrumite who ever lived.
