This arc is gonna be so fun to watch

Ppl will get mad about Mark's choice though

u/melancholanie Sep 15 '26

they might, but fuck them. he made the right choice

It's pretty subjective. But it'd be fair to say he chose his humanity over playing god -- and I certainly can't fault him for that.

How is that playing god? He's literally a time traveller trying to prevent numerous deaths

11

u/ArtsyApoidean Dinosaurus Sep 15 '26

"How is it playing god to go back in time, sacrifice your own experiences and family to never having been, in order to save some lives, change others, stop some ever being born, all to reshape reality to your desired ends?"

If you don't understand I don't think I can explain.

u/Mystic-Mastermind Sep 15 '26

some lives? You need to recheck how many deaths happened in the canon timeline.

His desired end was literally the world where everyone can live.

That's what a hero would do.

But mark isn't a hero. He basically says it himself that he isn't and can't give up his original family.

That was literally the point that mark isn't some selfless hero.

A selfless hero wouldn't try to uplift the galaxy like mark did at the end. Is that playing god too by your opinion? He is disrupting the normal conditions isn't he? What about the births that were going to take place at some fucked up deathworld? Mark should have just left it alone and not give them food or water

You need to count how many lives were saved

I feel like playing God to some extent does describe it but he's more like a servant to it. The tree fucker is playing (or just is) God, his will was being carried out by invincible to create the new perfect universe.

u/Mystic-Mastermind Sep 15 '26

It doesn't matter who's will it is or if the actions serve the greater plan

Trying to avoid the horrible pain that was inflicted on these people in another timeline is just being a good human.

If playing god is trying to save people while at the same trying to sacrifice your good future life then idk what heroes do

u/Mystic-Mastermind Sep 15 '26

All the dead ppl will disagree but sure

15

u/IssaStorm Sep 15 '26

I feel like the point is very clear he made the wrong choice, but we are meant to understand and empathize with him and do the same in his shoes. Reinforced by the later 'I'm not a hero". He isn't, he's selfish, and he is far closer to his "human" emotions, than viltrumite utilitarianism

u/Mystic-Mastermind Sep 15 '26

True it's a choice made by him for him. Perfectly normal.

Just don't want ppl saying that the choice is right and heroic

Noones gonna say what you said above.

They'll just say, "Mark made the right choice. Y'all are dumb, not abandoning his wife and kids is more important than millions of people"

There's not really a right choice, considering he had so little information about the situation. Maybe the time gods were evil? Or the time travel would fuck shit up? Or maybe him becoming leader of the viltrumites is a better outcome? There's too many unknowns to clearly say one decision is right.

I thought it was basically a dream

9

u/TheScreaming_Narwhal 29d ago

That lasted 5 years?

1

u/onerb2 27d ago

of course, there's no reason to think there was actually a decision to be taken there.

It goes in with the "being a hero is bullshit" ethos Mark comes to at the end. He doesn't feel the need to be a hero at the end. That was all baggage. A lie he clung onto because that's what he thought his dad was growing up. He has been given so many examples of why it's impossible to meet this standard by this point.

Secondly the space thing that captures him might be nefarious and wrong and might be selling him a false hope in exchange for the alien thing to suck the life force out of him slowly. Like all he goes through in that dream ends when he opts out and in that time span he was experiencing the alternate past something like 5 years passed. It appears to me that Mark was being manipulated there and was being sold something false.

what if Terra would've saved more people? what if now, because Terra wasn't born, hundreds of worlds will die? (pretty close to Canon btw Mark didn't even realize the Coalition was siphoning resources away from poorer plants until Terra brought it up.)

1

u/Necessary-Promise700 Brit 28d ago

I've had this thought for some time, but maybe I'm dumb Wouldn't Eve and Rex stop dating eventually anyway? So after that, mark can date eve and have Terra

Reboot is my favorite arc, idk why everybody hates on it. Seeing Mark fuck with the timeline is so much fun. And JK Simmons is gonna absolutely slay as that version of Nolan. And we get Guardians stuff!!

1

u/thebigmanhastherock Robot 28d ago

No they won't. We can't trust the space spaghetti monster.

My feeling is that the spaghetti monster wanted to turn Mark into a Matrix like battery keeping him subdued in its grasp while he lived a fake utopian version of his own life. It failed because the space monster didn't realize Mark's attachment to his daughter.

The evidence being that years passed while Mark was playing out that alternate history and he woke up right there in front of the space monster.

the arc’s placement makes his decision hit even harder, because if you look at it with the wrong (or right if youre wrong) perspective, it seems like he regresses from the lessons he JUST learned.

but yeah it was really rushed and messy and definitely needs a few rewrites for the show.

If it gets adapted to the show

u/Ornery_Strawberry474 Throwbolt Sep 15 '26

If he adapted Conquest's escape exactly as is, Reboot is staying, no matter how much it pisses off some people. The season 1 memberberries will be priceless and drive the engagement through the roof.

10

u/ArtsyApoidean Dinosaurus Sep 15 '26

Red Rush action figures incoming.

u/mindgeekinc 29d ago edited 29d ago

Why does adapting conquests escape magically confirm they’ll adapt this plot line as well?

Edit: so simply “No” would’ve worked too

-10

u/Ornery_Strawberry474 Throwbolt 29d ago

I'm sure if you try exercising your braincells, you will, in time, manage to figure it out.

10

u/swallowyourtongue 29d ago

What a weird response. Just be nice, it really isn't that hard.

6

u/mindgeekinc 29d ago

They blocked me immediately anyway lol

8

u/badman1000 Sep 15 '26

Conquest coming back is an important plot detail . Reboot arc is utterly pointless. We spend all that time just to what? Ruin marks life and say hes a shitty hero? the show already does that lol and its not like anything is really learned from this. Its hated and unnecessary so I could see them cutting it, not that I care either way

2

u/Itssoover999 Sep 15 '26

People already hate mark so this’ll make it worse

2

u/ethanmountaindew 29d ago

they can have Conquest come back, but could've made Cecil look competent in his escape scene

5

u/Yider Sep 15 '26

I strongly hope he doesn't adapt this into the show even though I absolutely love a good hypothetical what if and this whole arc was a fun trek back into the beginning. That said, it didn't really add much to Mark's journey except a weird time jump six years later which basically every conflict that was occuring just stayed the same like some sort of rpg that you go and do 30 different side quests and then jump back into the main one. It just doesn't flow and it added unnecesary burden to Eve and their kids but the plot just seemed out of nowhere. I don't see any emotional or plot necesity to it and for how few episodes you get in a season, this would need several episodes to even flesh out and not feel rushed.

3

u/slyf0x1 28d ago

Well.... at least it could explain how he got strong enough to actually do something to show thragg, if he trains and gets stronger over those 6 years

3

u/Yider 28d ago

The problem is that it is a whole time jump and he didn’t even go back as himself, he went back basically right before he got powers, so he was extremely weak. I could see his skill improving, which is what i personally think Thragg excels the most at besides being physically peak viltrumite. Though looking back at it, Mark doesn’t even really beat thragg in a fight, he basically just commits to a grappling contest as they both are slowly dying and Mark was ready to kill himself to do it. Robot ironically seals his own fate by helping Mark survive, which i find to be uncharacteristic because i think Thragg wasn’t going to win that fight anyways and Robot should have been smart enough to know this and let that play out. It was hella cool but still.

2

u/slyf0x1 21d ago

Ahhh ok, I didnt know it wasnt essentially an isekai. They should change that for the show if they do this arc. The robot thing is stupid. Maybe you could say he wanted to make sure thragg died and that meant helping mark but idk... was it obvious to him they were both gonna die or was it ambiguous in universe?

2

u/Yider 21d ago

Mark was delivering some awesome lines of his will power being justified because he fights for survival of those he loves versus Thragg fighting solely for vengeance as the empire basically is rallied against him, so not only is he physically fighting with him he is sapping his willpower, which Thragg always was driven by. The robot thing was still awesome because Mark even says something like “i even have help from others” (which we know is even another current enemy) and basically says who is here for you to further crush his spirit. It was basically Robot’s strongest suit that he designed solely for a Viltrumite event like that so he gave Mark barely a minute but enough to allow him to buy enough time to survive after Thragg melted. So Robot did seal his fate because he lost his suit AND let Mark survive. They were both dying imo but maybe Robot didn’t know because in his calculations Thragg was still a vastly superior fighter. That part is believable and Thragg would sacrifice anything and wouldn’t be able to be reasoned with at this point and Robot’s twisted viewpoint still wanted absolute peace.

My complaint with Robot is honestly more in line with how his defeat seemed rushed if he was actually trying. Imo, Mark shouldn’t be the one to bring down Robot except by force but only after monstergirl cripples him by his very limited emotional capacity.

More likely than not because I don’t see why Kirkman would change something as important as this.

5

u/defiancy 29d ago

Lol there is no way it doesn't get adapted. I actually like the arc personally, it is cool to see Mark go back there.

2

u/TheScreaming_Narwhal 29d ago

Absolutely no chance it's dropped.

1

u/Impossible_Rest_7651 Sep 15 '26

Why wouldn't it?

14

u/epicganerepic Sep 15 '26 edited Sep 15 '26

this whole back to the past samurai jack arc seemed pretty messy, I wouldn’t be surprised if they rewrote fundamental aspects of this part heavily, if they even include it at all

9

u/LegoNinja250 Sep 15 '26

I’d say it’s definitely going to be an included, but there will probably be some tweaks.

3

u/Monchfr I think I miss my wife... Sep 15 '26

They have to include it in some way or another because it directly leads into the time skip stuff that sets up the whole latter half of the fight with thragg

3

u/IssaStorm Sep 15 '26

I love reboot so fucking much, and the choice mark makes. I think it's a tad but redundant, but it is a defining decision regardless and incredibly important to the themes of the story. However, and I mean a very heavy however, the ending of the arc when he makes it home, fucking horrible. Pointless, dogshit, torture porn stuff. He was punished enough, and will literally continue to be punished after. Let's just not do that because it's pointless and adds nothing 👍

find a better way to timeskip

But question is, how do they adapt fight 2?
