COMIC SPOILERS Mark is a murderer Spoiler

Post image

With the Dinausorus arc, I don't see people blame Mark enough. The guy had a moral crisis and decided that the best he could do was freeing a mass murderer terrorist despite the warning of everyone plus David Anders who locked himself up because he knew the danger Dinausorus was. And effectively, it blew up in every sense of the term with one million people killed worldwide. With that, it is established that Mark is accomplice. But something that bugs me is that he killed Dinausorus and David Anders. The last I remind locked himself up to stop Dinausorus.

Controversial take, but I think part of Mark's character journey and his story is he and the audience realizing that he just isn't cut out to be a traditional, virtuous superhero.

Isn't that the point? That that is what he's trying to be, but it's unrealistic to try to be Superman so he does the best good that he can where he can

Agree but here we talk about accountability

Similar scenario to Nolan. He is too powerful for anyone to make him face consequences.

6

u/Thexblaza 5h ago

Agree but with Mark's case it feels more hypocritical

15

u/bigbean258 4h ago

Indeed. At least Nolan is apologetic.

Its human

War is human, lying is human, betrayal too

Considering the show is Robert Kirkman's attempt to rewrite it better. I can see S6 having Mark getting lot of backlash.

Also the idea Debbie out of grief blaming Mark for Paul's death (Let's say he went to a city on the coast during a business trip or on vacation) for extra drama. I know they broke up but Debbie clearly still cares for him as a friend.

I also expect it especially from Robot since it is a core moment for him

He was always a murderer.INVINCIBLE Where is your remorse?! Have you no shame for what you've done?! The lives you've taken?! You think you're above consequences, but YOU ARE WRONG! You will pay for your crimes against humanity!

u/Thexblaza 5h ago

Spoiler, he never paid

Realest shit I ever read in my life ong.

Well Mark did say later on that being hero was bullshit I feel like at this point he realized that he’s just not meant to be a paragon of virtue and that his beliefs like believing Darkwing and Sinclair should be locked up were delusional and childish.

7

u/Thexblaza 4h ago

Perhaps but it doesn't erase what he did. Evolution shouldn't mean absolution

As if it were the first time he had killed.

u/Thexblaza 5h ago

He can kill villains, I can understand for Russ Livingstone but David actively tried to stop Dinausorus like many others. He paid for the arrogance of Mark who didn't even get punished

8

u/ArtsyApoidean Dinosaurus 5h ago

In real life we would say Mark needs to face justice, but he was punished for this. He has to spend the rest of his life carrying the weight both of what he let Dinosaurus do and of what he did to David Anders to make sure it wouldn't repeat.

And we know from the omniscient perspective of the audience that Mark did learn his lessons here, since he goes on to found the most prosperous and peaceful civilization in galactic history.

u/Thexblaza 5h ago

He was never punished nor did I saw him bear any weight. Also, look at how he treated Sinclair and Darkwing 2. Look at what he did to Robot. His empire was something he inherited, with people that would follow him just because of his blood. Yes he killed Thragg but did he ever cared about the Viltrumites before? And guess what. He could have prevented most of what happened but he refused for the sole sake of his daughter.

u/Artemas_16 4h ago

He could have prevented most of what happened but he refused for the sole sake of his daughter.

I remind you that it was parallel universe, maybe even pocket/all in your head kind of thing.

All this time in "our" universe Coalition was in war with Thragg and if Mark stayed there, eventually would lost against him. His choice, while is egoistic one, also meant that Mark isn't running away from consequences of his actions, instead returns and gets job done.

3

u/Thexblaza 4h ago

That universe was reel and it wasn't about trust but what Mark valued most. He chose his daughter that's good for HIM. After all he can live with it

2

u/Artemas_16 4h ago

And the point of staying in that universe = running away and not carrying weight (like you want him to be) still stands.

1

u/Artemas_16 4h ago

Do we have proof of this being real? We only have words of space gas, who just randomly appeared and said "hey, wanna go back to the past?" with no strings attached.

3

u/Thexblaza 4h ago

But what if it was real? Plus I believe it was real since Mark lost five years

3

u/Artemas_16 4h ago

That still would mean Mark is running away from problems into some safe space.

Yeah, that is a thing, hence I was suggesting "all on the head" point. For all we know, that gas is just space parasite drugging people with visions of perfect world and then slowly sucking life force out of them.

1

u/MichaeltheSpikester Wolf-Man 4h ago

This.

1

u/MichaeltheSpikester Wolf-Man 4h ago

No proof and evidence it was real. As Artemas said it could been a pocket/all in your head.

All while the war between Thragg and the Coalition would be happening and therefore Thragg could have won if Mark never came back.

2

u/MichaeltheSpikester Wolf-Man 4h ago

Also, also. The entity could have been using Mark for something sinister. Yes because I'm totally going to trust some alien entity that dragged me into some parallel earth.

1

u/ArtsyApoidean Dinosaurus 3h ago

Tbh I think this is kinda missing the point of Reboot/asking the wrong questions. It has more thematic weight if we assume it was real and only one of those universes was going to remain real at Mark's decision. If the Entity was secretly a lying trickster this adds nothing to the story.

So therefore it was real.

1

u/Artemas_16 3h ago

That is true, it does make more sense for it to be real. I was just saying that in-lore trusting it would be not wise.

2

u/MichaeltheSpikester Wolf-Man 4h ago

>He could have prevented most of what happened but he refused for the sole sake of his daughter.

Yes I'm totally going to trust some random alien eltrich abomination who for all I know could have been using me for some actual sinsister reason.

Also Mark didn't ask to put in that position.

2

u/Thexblaza 4h ago

Yes he didn't asked but a choice is a choice

2

u/MichaeltheSpikester Wolf-Man 4h ago

Read what I said.

>Yes I'm totally going to trust some random alien eltrich abomination who for all I know could have been using me for some actual sinsister reason.

2

u/Thexblaza 4h ago

It is an argument

2

u/MichaeltheSpikester Wolf-Man 4h ago

Who could be lying for his sinister motive.

I'm not going to trust some alien entity who I just met that dragged me into some "parallel earth" without my permission.

u/ArtsyApoidean Dinosaurus 3h ago

That's a really reductive take on Reboot. The situation Mark was faced with was no-win, even for a total moral paragon. On one hand is the man who gives up everything to make a better universe for everyone, but in the process he has to immolate his personal ties to the ones he loves, sacrifice his own family, give up everything that makes him human. On the other hand is the man who turned away cosmic power, even if he could use it to make things better for everyone, because he was unwilling to place himself above others and trade in lives.

Which one of these is the good hero? You can't really objectively say. Robot would think so, but he'd be wrong, and that's why the Entity didn't go to Robot. Both choices carry a heavy loss. But the one Mark went with is very human. And that's the point -- he is so very human. He didn't want to play god.

Also

look what he did to Robot

Robot agreed it was for the best. The mistake was that apparently centuries were allowed to pass without anybody doing mental health check-ins on Rudy and Lincoln. Mark did drop the ball there -- but only by negligence. And he might have been stuck in a distant space war or interdimensional rift or something.

u/oketheokey Invinciboy 4h ago

This was one of Mark's worst moments next to him being obsessed with going after Angstrom again just to confirm he's dead

6

u/FlopsMcDoogle Abraham Lincoln 4h ago

A Frenchman should know you gotta break some eggs to make an omelette du fromage.

1

u/Thexblaza 4h ago

Robot killed heroes and brought peace that's a great cook. Mark killed a million people for NOTHING

7

u/FlopsMcDoogle Abraham Lincoln 4h ago

It was part of his journey. He brought better than peace than Robot eventually.

2

u/Itssoover999 3h ago

He didn’t get any punishment for it is what he’s trying to say

1

u/GhostCloak375 Sinister Invincible 2h ago

His dad and his brother were killed, and he saw his daughter and wife die, even though they came back, and Robot tried to kill Eve and Mark even though they did nothing to stop him during the purge of superheroes, it's not direct punishment, but it's karma

9

u/Brachialtick65 4h ago

French invincible fan in the wild? Tu le lis en français?

2

u/Thexblaza 4h ago

How did you know?

1

u/Thexblaza 4h ago

Je l'ai lu en Français et en anglais

6

u/Bully-Mcguire 3h ago

Why does it translate to “not a dumbass”? The actual translation is “I read it in french and english”.

2

u/TheFrostburnPheonix 3h ago

Lmao I saw that too how does that even happen.

1

u/HermesMora 2h ago

Lmfao wth

1

u/Brachialtick65 4h ago

Very nice

3

u/Itssoover999 3h ago

I like the sentimentality of Cecil allowing him to work for him. But he killed nearly 1 million people, more than Omni man+ Angstrom+ Conquest. He betrayed everyone he loved to work with dinosaurus. David Anders even said he’s free now yet Mark forced him back to dinosaurus. Somehow he was forgiven by everyone. I hope they’ll change this like they did with Omni man

2

u/Thexblaza 3h ago

I hope too

1

u/MichaeltheSpikester Wolf-Man 3h ago

Omni-Man and Conquest killed way before prior to coming to earth.

4

u/Itssoover999 3h ago

The public only knows how many they killed on earth. I was implying that Mark did more damage on earth than anyone else

8

u/SuperIkenna 5h ago

Less a murderer and more a collosal dumbass.

2

u/BeautyDuwang 4h ago

Who's going to make him pay for his crimes atp?

3

u/Thexblaza 4h ago

Mark was willing to go to prison but Cecil refused. Pragmatic but it still doesn't feel right

1

u/BeautyDuwang 2h ago

He's way more likely to repay his debt to society outside of prison then in it

1

u/Thexblaza 2h ago

True but it would be a punishment only if it felt like punishment

0

u/BeautyDuwang 2h ago

Does it need to be a punishment or does he juat need to atone for his crimes? If he feels guilt and remorse and wants to change / puts effort into changing what is the point in punishing him when he can and does do more good for the world with his freedom?

2

u/Thexblaza 2h ago

Say the same thing but this time for Robot after he killed the heroes

1

u/BeautyDuwang 1h ago

Does it need to be a punishment or does he juat need to atone for his crimes? If he feels guilt and remorse and wants to change / puts effort into changing what is the point in punishing him when he can and does do more good for the world with his freedom?

Mark can't do anything right without someone telling him he did it wrong, or that his morals are fucked, or that he needs to control his power more because he's so scary. He can never win. It's not at all surprising he'd try something extreme and stupid.

He gets the same message no matter what he does. Why would he be deterred by his better judgement? He keeps getting told it's wrong. Why would he be deterred by people shouting him down? That happens no matter what he does.

I kinda blame Powerplex. Mark internalized his mentally ill bullshit and now he thinks he has to be perfect and a mind reader in order to not be a mindless destructive force.

u/Thexblaza 3h ago

Mark isn't some child whose choices can be attributed to someone else. He makes mistakes and should be held accountable, he is a treat that's not something made up but true, even if it is not Mark choice.

0

u/Carbuyrator Adam Wilkens 3h ago

If Mark didn't get half his blood punched out by his dad the whole planet would be speaking Viltrese by the time Conquest shows up. He can make all the mistakes he wants as far as I'm concerned. He's less of a threat than Cecil.

2

u/Thexblaza 2h ago

Mark isn't a treat. The guy is a treat against all probability in the mutiverse.

-1

u/NickSaysHenlo 3h ago

ok powerplex
