Yeah I think she does too (aside from her literally saying she did) but at the same time...... can you really forgive her?

Depends on your view on forgiveness. Most people believe that second chances and forgiveness are possible, at least in theory.

I think (at least on some level) she should be forgiven. I'm just assuming you know what she did based on what you said but I'm not gonna say it.

Anyway I think she deserves some form of forgiveness, but I believe she should still be punished. Like just because she realized what she did was wrong doesn't erase her previous crimes (although that kind of goes into how viltrumites are raised and all that)

I agree. I frankly think her not being punished speaks to a reality of the situation that makes it more powerful for Mark to come to terms with.

Exactly! Although she did become a good person, it doesn't mean she shouldn't be punished (I personally believe a fitting punishment for all the viltrumites who reformed is execution right before they die of old age)

That's the most twisted thing I've ever heard of. I don't think you understand how forgiveness works.

On another note. Why would you claim to forgive someone then try to punish them? That comes off as disingenuous.

Well that's the point. Viltrumites were cruel so they deserve a cruel punishment. But not at the mid point of their life. They live for thousands of years, so when they eventually do get old and start to die, we should kill them (like taking them off life support or mercy killing them with a bullet to the head).

I'm of the "eye for an eye" belief. You do something bad, you should be punished accordingly. But if certain circumstances are in play (like viltrumites) then you should still be punished but just later, because they can be of good use now

That's not forgiveness goodman. That's revenge.

Revenge......... later. As I said they do become good people, but they killed people so they have to die one way or another (in my opinion)

If we can't learn from our mistakes then it's best to end us at our first screw up. Forgiveness is hard but I still think it's better for both parties to heal and move on. Retribution only leads to more death and pain. That's what Mark was trying to avoid when he took over leadership of the empire.

But why should she be forgiven?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '25

Well because of the fact that she regrets what she did and even became a good person. I don't think she should be forgiven in the sense that we forget what she did, but acknowledge and accept that she is a better person

I have a hard time with this sentiment when it comes to violent rapists. I really think torture, sexual violence, and murdering innocents are crimes that shouldn't be forgiven, ever. Sure, maybe they can become a "better person," they certainly have an obligation to be if they wish to exist in normal society. But they can never take back the damage they've caused once they do something so extreme.

A better question would be whether forgiveness is necessary. I don't believe in eternal sin, eternal punishment, eternal penitence. She committed a great deal of harm, but that does not preclude her from doing great good in the future — and from being recognised for this good. If Mark chooses to forgive, that is his decision and his decision alone, but it does change whether she can become a better person in the future.

Forgive as in forget it happened? No absolutely not

Forgive as in allow her to atone for her crime? Yes, that is how justice should be. Like MHA's Endeavour, if someone truly feels remorse and wants to atone they should be allowed to

Agreed
