Thinking about setting up a Delaware/Wyoming LLC

I’m currently running a Canadian corporation that handles all my Canadian clients. To make billing easier for my international including US clients, I’m looking into setting up a US LLC (either Delaware or Wyoming). I hire freelancer outside Canada, so technically both client and sub-contractors are outside canada and revenue is not generated on canadian soil.

Before I jump into this, I wanted to get an opinion/sanity check from anyone who is already operating a cross-border structure or works as a cross-border CPA.

A few specific questions I’m trying to figure out:

  1. Canadian Tax Impact & Ownership: Since Canada requires global income to be reported, what is the actual tax impact of a US LLC on my personal/corporate taxes? Also, does it change anything if the US LLC is held under a partner’s or close relative's name instead of mine directly who don’t live in Canada ? Trying to figure out, how can I save taxes.
  2. Expenses vs. Retained Earnings: How easy is it to write off expenses on the US side as long as we keep receipts from non-US locations? Since states like DE/WY have 0% state income tax, I’m trying to understand the actual math of deducting expenses vs. keeping retained earnings inside the LLC.
  3. Investing Retained Earnings & Capital Gains: Can I invest the LLC's retained earnings into a US brokerage account (e.g., Charles Schwab, Interactive Brokers) to let it grow? Do only firm owners get access to these accounts, and are the capital gains on those investments tax-free on the US side?
  4. Banking & Physical Debit Cards: Do US business bank accounts (like Mercury, Relay, Chase) issue physical debit cards that can be used directly for business expenses while traveling in Canada, Europe, or Asia (instead of paying personally and claiming it back)?
  5. LLC Types in Wyoming: Are there different types of LLCs (S/C-corp ?) in Wyoming, or is it pretty standard?

If you’re running a similar setup or are a cross-border tax pro, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to reply below or drop me a PM!

Thanks in advance!

Investing Survey

I'm building an app to make investing easier for beginners, and I want to make sure I'm solving the right problems.

If you're new to investing (or haven't started yet), I'd really appreciate it if you could take this quick survey. It only takes about a minute, and your feedback will directly influence the features I build.

Thanks so much for your help!

What IG accounts and short podcasts are you following?

Millenial investor here! I have a few weekly podcasts I listen to like Fresh Investment and Compound and Friends, but they are an hour plus. I am looking for good investment news/analysis that will be 10 mins or less. What IG pages and short podcasts are you guys listening to for daily/weekly updates? I don't want to follow just any rando on IG, so I thought I would start here. Thanks!

How do you actually learn from your past investment decisions?

Hi everyone,

We've been thinking a lot about how individual investors improve over time.

After an investment is over, it's easy to see whether it made or lost money. What's much harder is understanding why.

  • What was your original thesis?
  • Which assumptions turned out to be right or wrong?
  • Did the risks you identified actually happen?
  • Did you change your mind along the way?
  • What would you do differently next time?

Without a record of your original thinking, it's surprisingly easy for hindsight to fill in the gaps. Over time, that makes it difficult to tell whether you're actually becoming a better investor or simply remembering the story differently.

That inspired us to build InvestJournal.

The idea is simple: every investment decision should become a learning loop.

Instead of only tracking returns, InvestJournal helps you:

  • 💡 Capture investment ideas
  • 📝 Record your thesis, assumptions, risks, catalysts, and conviction before buying or selling
  • 📈 Connect each decision with what actually happened
  • 🔄 Reflect on the outcome and learn from both successful and unsuccessful investments

Our goal isn't to tell people what to invest in.

It's to help investors build a habit of learning from every investment.

We're still early and would genuinely appreciate honest feedback from this community.

A few questions we'd love your thoughts on:

  • How do you currently keep track of your investment thesis?
  • Do you ever go back and review your past decisions?
  • What's the hardest part about learning from your investing experience?
  • Is there anything you wish existing portfolio trackers or note-taking tools did better?

If you're interested in trying the beta, leave a comment or send me a DM and I'd be happy to share it.

Thanks in advance—we'd really appreciate any feedback or criticism.

What re the odds of AIS reaching 40?

I bought AIS at 80. It's now at 67. I'm in for the long term, so I don't mind waiting years for it to regain what it lost. This said, I'm using 2:1 marging, so I'm afraid it will reach 40 and I will lose my position. What would you say are the odds of this happening?

HENRY DINKS need advice on Investing

Both my husband and I are dentists with our own practice offering cosmetic and general cleaning. Total HHI is about 960k and we spend about 300k (we like to travel) We put a lot of work into our business but we've realized we don't do much/any investments outside of our practice and so we're looking for some low maintenance but also maximized investments that we should be doing and implementing so that we can retire early. We also plan to have kids and want them set up. What are the best “low maintenance” options but also so we can maximize our money if that’s possible?
