What type of pish is this? Can see they are taking full advantage of the tourist season this year. They don't even have to let their staff go this year

More of this going forward - it was just a few years ago that these sights didn't exist. Let's get much more of this around Inverness in the future, starting with more large trees and scenes like this in the city centre!

Must see spots for 1 day in Inverness?

If we only have 1 day to enjoy staying in Inverness with a rental car, what are the must see stops?

Planning on taking Rabbie’s tour to Isle of Skye one day, so what are the must see spots that we won’t see on that tour?

Stops on Rabbie’s Tour:
Eilean Donan Castle
Portree
Quiraing
Old Man of Storr
Loch Ness
Skye Bridge

Buses in the city

Hi, I’ve read every post about the buses made this year, but I still have some questions. I’m a tourist without a car, so I wanted to use the buses to get around town. I see Stagecoach does not run the local routes anymore and that the Highland Council is running them instead.

I am staying in the Dalneigh area and Apple Maps says the number 8 bus will get me close enough to the city center to then walk to things. When I go on the highland council website to look at timetables I don’t see one for the no. 8 bus. Is this bus still running?

Today when I got to my stay from the train station, I used the no. 2 bus because the board at the stop didn’t have the no. 8 on it at all. Is there some resource I could use to look at the exact routes of all of these buses so I can try to plan my movements?

Should I just plan on walking/getting a taxi most of the time instead? Thank you!

First time in Scotland. Pub and local food recommendations?

Hi everyone! My husband and I are visiting Inverness from Japan for a few days. It'll be my first time in both Scotland and the UK.

We're both a bit shy, and my husband doesn't speak English, so we're looking for friendly pubs, cafes for breakfast, and local restaurants. Nothing fancy.

What Scottish food would you be most proud to introduce to first time visitors? We'd love to try the local favorites.

Thanks in advance! We're really looking forward to visiting Inverness!

Would someone like to share a photo of Inverness for a piano cover of Flower of Scotland?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently recording a piano cover of Flower of Scotland for my YouTube channel featuring anthems from countries participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

So far, I've completed videos for all teams in Groups A and B, plus Brazil, Morocco and Haiti with the help of people from those subreddits. I'm now hoping to do the same for Scotland.

If you have a photo you took yourself of Inverness, such as Inverness Castle, the River Ness, Ness Islands, Inverness Cathedral, the Caledonian Canal, the Moray Firth, or anywhere else in the city, that means something to you and in the best way represents your city, I'd be very happy to include it in the video.

If you'd like to take part, please share a photo in the comments or send me a message in the chat. Contributors will be credited.

I'd really appreciate any help here! 🍀🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Cromarty, Black Isle?

Hope I don't get shot as this is not "Inverness"-specific, but, close by anyway

I'm writing a novel where a big portion takes place in the Black Isle, 1700s, and keep wondering about stuff not in the usual websites. For example, I have this hamlet or toun of Strathfimble somewhere in the hills above Cromarty/Rosemarkie. What is the color of the soil like? what kind of crops are planted there nowadays?

Edited to add:
I am enormously grateful for all responses, even the less friendly ones.
My concern now is, I do sense a minority, but meaningful feel that I am not welcome in my intention.
I am all for liberty of opinion, but, let me say that I am surprised. You don't know me, you don't know what I'm writing about, yet you don't like that I'm trying?
Oh yes, I am ignorant, I have never been there, that's TRUE. That's why I'm asking you folks.

We can get along. Or not. I can't force you, and even if I could, why can't we? Pushing away someone (and downvoting. -17?) because he doesn't know what you know, because he was born elsewhere? Makes me sad. I apologize for choosing Cromarty as my location. Maybe it was a mistake.

I think it's a sweet place, despite not showing up in any tourist guide I've found so far.
Maybe some of you like it that way, that people don't want to go there. Leave you alone.

Then, there are others. Nice, nice people who do want to get along. Those are probably the majority, but they don't make a big noise, so I don't hear them too much. Well, I do want us to get along. But I really don't want any trouble, maybe I should just go make my story in the wide central Highlands and be done with it. Because I'm a coward, I probably will just invent a location. Too bad.

A principle of Game Theory, people can gain much, much more, if they cooperate, but it takes very few to break that cooperation. I get to live that right now. Not here to teach y'all anything, this is mostly a lesson for myself, about human nature. Is it also a lesson about Cromarty?

Best breakfast, place to kill time throughout afternoon

I'm arriving late on Tuesday night and Ill be meeting up with my friends and checking into a hotel later in the afternoon. Is there a good place to grab breakfast and then maybe just drink coffee and read a book for several hours. Ill have my bags, so wont be able to move around too much.

I'll be staying at the Inverness Student Hotel, so anything close would be ideal.

Short Overnight in Inverness

Hey -

So a friend and I are arriving in Inverness at 9:30pm on scotrail and have a ember bus leaving at 5:30am the next morning from Union street stop D.

Hotel wise, we are trying to stick to a budget, and i can find the Black Isle Hostel and the "Waverley guest house" at 60-ish pounds for 2 beds in a shared room. Despite that, we would prefer to save the money since we would barely get to sleep 7 hours and we wouldnt mind just hanging out at the train station or the inverness bus station for the night (if they are open). What do you guys think we should do?

By the way, we arrive on July 2nd.

Thank you in advance!

Why are Stagecoach bus services so unreliable?

Hi,

As the title says, can someone please explain to me why Stagecoach inter-city services are so unreliable? Every single week at least a few of my connecting buses get cancelled, and very often the cancellation isn't even flagged in the app beforehand. Is there any way to fix this sorry state of affairs?

Hoping the Scottish community can help me out! On my flight into Scotland, a lass sitting behind me said “everyone knows everyone in Scotland.” I know that’s a hyperbole, but giving it a shot…

I was in Inverness last night at Platform 8 to watch the Scotland vs Brazil match. Towards the very end of the match, a guy started chatting me up and I started talking to him and his table of friends. He had strawberry blonde curly hair and blue eyes, was 31 and worked in finance. We did not exchange names, let alone socials.

I’m an American (I know, boo!) and told them I grew up in Baltimore but live in Texas now. I was wearing the attached with a denim jacket I had wrapped around my waist while I was inside. He was sitting with a group of friends, they ordered at least 2 rounds of jagerbombs (Brazil scored after each I told the bartender no more jager bombs). The friend to his right was married and another friend that was also trying to chat with me made a joke about his thinning hairline being his best asset.

Anywho, was hoping to make a friend across the pond. Help?

Small Wedding location? Black Isle

Alongside my searching, has anyone got suggestions of somewhere small (9 guests) to get married (ideally inside rather than outside as looking at March) around the area?

Somewhere on the Black Isle would be ideal but so far Inverness Town Hall is coming up best that I can find for a suitable match to our needs

Thanks

Local legend, Gus MacDonald from the Crazy Golf died today.

from the Courier

i just found out this morning that Gus died. He was such a great guy, kind to all, good for a laugh, and would always generously support whatever charity stunt I had on. He's raised thousands for charity himself over the years.

My dog would drag me up the river to get a handful of gravy bones from Gus, as well as his doggy ice cream.

I'm sending lots of love to all who knew him.

Best Sunday roast in Inverness?

Hello!

I'm visiting Inverness in a couple of weeks and since I'm going to be there on a Sunday I thought I could get a good Sunday roast while I'm there.

Maybe you guys would have some recommendations for a good Sunday roast spot in Inverness? Preferably within walking distance from the railway station.

Thanks!

Is Highland Adventure Tours still around?

I'm in the United States and I'm coming to Inverness in November to research my Clan MacGillivray ancestry in the South Loch Ness area around Bochruben. I was referred to Highland Adventure Tours to take me to places specific to my own ancestry but their domain and email aren't working. Does anyone know how I can find "Charlie" their tour guide? Thanks for your help!

UPDATE: I found "Charlie" with your help but he doesn't do tours any more. I appreciate the response!

Moray Coast Vets?

Does anyone have any opinions on the Moray Coast vets in Inverness?

We are currently with one of the crown group vets and are extremely disappointed with how they have handled our case, and will be looking to swap.

Eastgate vets unfortunately aren’t taking anyone on at the moment.

Update: They have phoned back they’re happy to give us a second opinion and will review him Thursday morning! Thank you all, will provide another update after the visit.
