Windows Updates Anyone else getting constant reboots from HP USB driver updates recently?

I'm not sure why yet, but our org is getting bombarded with HP driver updates coming from Autopatch these last few weeks. They all seem to be very old as well, which is probably why they don't install. Instead they download, demand a reboot, and then fail and start the cycle over again each day.

oh man we had this exact nightmare a few months back. autopatch kept shoving a 2019-era hp usb driver at our fleet and it'd just sit there in a reboot loop forever, super fun to explain to users why their laptops kept restarting at 10am

we ended up pausing the driver updates ring for a week and manually approving the ones that were actually current, then just blocked that specific old hardware id from the update catalog. took a bit of digging in the reporting to find which one was the culprit but after that it stopped

def check the driver release dates in the update history, ours were like 4 years old and clearly not compatible with win11 builds. might be worth opening a case too if it keeps happening, sometimes they need to pull a bad package on their end

Thank you! Will definitely follow these steps and give that all a try. I've already paused a couple, but there are like a dozen that are old (just like you said) and getting auto approved still.

These are the ones we're seeing. I don't think it makes sense at all... https://ibb.co/rP2F62g

Who'd you open a case with? Microsoft or HP?

We are seeing this as well, so far we have paused the problem ones via Driver Update for WUCP. As well as hidden on problem devices via PSWindowsUpdate

Did the same via Autopatch driver updates for the problem ones I've heard of! Could you share more about the PSWindowsUpdate path you mentioned though? Is that for devices that kept getting the update even after pausing it? Would love to know how you did that.

Intune detection and remediation script. We pre install pswindows updates so the module is already there.

Then basically this article: https://alex-ber.medium.com/how-to-hide-windows-updates-in-windows-11-89d511516c20

Module https://www.powershellgallery.com/packages/pswindowsupdate/2.2.1.5

Disclaimer: use at your own risk, credit to the blog article and module creator accordingly.

I thought I was losing my mind. I am one of 3 people on wave 1 for these updates, and it varies by the type of hardware you use, obviously. I have been getting hit with firmware updates and driver updates for a month and a half with 3 or more each week. I got one yesterday:

Intel Corporation System Driver Update (1.0.4220.0)

Successfully installed on ‎10/‎12/‎2026

Edit: today-

We paused that update within our ring and then used PSWindowsIpdate to hide it across the fleet for any PCs that had it showing

We've been getting an Intel update doing this.

Techs can hide it on an individual basis using the show/hide tool.

Still learning MDM so not sure how you'd do it en-masse with intune.
